Great, but read all the reviews.
The reason I say read all the reviews is so that you will discover that if you have absolutely no background with engine theory or repair, and you have never so much as replaced a spark plug in your life, you will probably find this book a bit more complicated if your trying to fix your weed whacker in two minutes. With guidance, sure you probably can muddle through areas that are applicable to you, but without basic operational theory, you will probably be looking up a lot of terminology and asking for assistance. If you have no experience what so ever, this book probably will be frustrating. If you have some background in combustion engine operation, you should be able to use this book and learn from it. I've read a few reviews that said the photos were of low quality, and not very helpful. Again, one reason some folks feel this way is that they may not know what they are looking at. The other reason is that it may be parts or assemblies from a different brands other that what they need help with. All in all, I think it's a good book to keep on your bench for that weekend tinkerer that has done some work on gas engines and understands basic theory of the same.

Great for anyone even somewhat mechanically inclined folks
While I'm only a software engineer, I am also relatively mechanically inclined and wanted to wrap my mind around basic maintenance for my 2 stroke equipment (i.e. trimmer, chain saw, mantis tiller, etc.).After reading this book twice, I walked away with much more than basic 2 stroke maintenance abilities. I would now feel comfortable tackling all but the most complicated of repairs on my 2 stroke equipment. The author, Mr. Dempsey, definitely brings the nature of 2 stroke engines, the technical details and terminology, and much more all within reach for those inclined to work on equipment. While making things like the kinds of tools or techniques a professional would use to diagnose and handle many repairs understandable for laymen, the author also provides a myriad of tips and tricks for identifying, diagnosing, and in some cases actually carrying out an effective repair without spending hundreds of dollars on a tool that you may use once in a lifetime (and he at least makes it clear, while still instructing on how you could do the complicated repair yourself, that there are some things you likely want to take to a professional, as they'll already have the expensive tools or in-depth knowledge necessary to more realistically handle that issue).Long story short, this book is so good, so readable, and so applicable that in the short time I've had this book I've been able to read it twice, and successfully execute basic maintenance and repairs on my own 2 stroke equipment. Kudos to Mr. Dempsey on writing such a useful book!

This book helped me fix my lawnmower, my car, and determine that my weed wacker was gone!
Amazing book that taught me the theory behind combustion engines and how to fix 2-Stroke engines. The knowledge in this book carries over to any combustion engine. After reading it, I was able to fix my own car, which is a 4-Cycle, so that tells you how well this book is written. After reading this book, I was also able to determine that my weed wacker was too far gone for repair (pitted and sludged up piston crown and walls, with a non-working ignition system), and get my 4-Cycle lawnmower back to idling normally and reliably.I recommend it to anyone looking to learn how to fix combustion engines!

Well written and worth every dime!
This is the only book (that I could find) completely dedicated to the repair of the 2 stroke engine. It is also well written with many examples on how to repair specific parts. The author gives enough clear details so that once it is read repairs are successful. Although I have been making repairs to 2 stroke lawn equipment for many years (with good results) I had to first experience the failure of improper diagnostics and not fixing the problem. Mr. Dempsey itemizes each component of a 2 stroke engine describing each in good detail. The book is about 181 pages in length, but is concise and to the point. It is written with the home owner in mind and should be in all DIY-ers arsenal of tools.

Saving me money
Author's in-depth explanations of how 2-stroke engines work......excellent. I liked his coverage of the different brands and types of carburetors and the engineering history behind them. Really helped someone like me who's mechanically minded, but with no experience in small engines to grasp the concept of small engine operation. I've since repaired a chainsaw that hadn't worked for 5 years, and am currently repairing the one I'd bought before that one. I bought the 2nd one because of the cost of repairing the 1st. Saving me money.

Nice book.
Slow shipping, good quality book.I have a Small Engine Repair Service (joe's small engine services) in Santa Cruz CA so I will be putting this book to good use. A little lite-reading in my free time.

Great for anybody who wants to turn wrenches on 2 cycles
This book goes into very good detail on 2 cycle motors. It is mostly geared towards working on really small motors, such as those on lawn equipment, but I read it to learn about my 2 cycle outboard boat motor, and it really helped. Thanks to this book and a few YouTube videos, I've been able to completely disassemble my motor, home out the cylinders, and replace piston rings. Great book.

Good book to study and repair your equipment.
Book has some pretty big technical words, may seem confusing to some but if you have some experience with engines and maybe even 4 stroke engines, you'll be fine. God bless.

Useful little book with all too few competitors
Small 2-stroke garden tools fall into the category of being relatively inexpensive to buy but are nevertheless complicated to maintain oneself & prohibitively / uneconomically expensive to have repaired professionally. Therefore a book like this is very useful. The best aspects for me are that it is very general, it explains HOW the parts work, so one is prepared for whatever actual item needs repair. To try to offer a specific-to-model "Haynes" style book would be a lost cause for small cheap 2-strokes. There are hundreds of model types on the market. Even a specific item eg Manufacturer ABC chainsaw model XY123 will be found with various carbs, ignition components etc.Other good points are the excellent writing style and a sensible & appropriate level of detail. However it is clear that the American author never expected the book to be read outside the USA, but this matters little.

Perfect book for the everyman, with little mechanical knowledge
Simple terminology, well explained and actually very relevant to the everyman, whose doesnt want to spend the money on servicng/ repairing the already expensive two stroke tools. I have a chainsaw, strimmer, hedgetrimmer and a small 100 cc quad which have all beneifted from the purchase of this book. I had an old hedgtrimmer which I inherited. After a week or so of tinkering at nights and a new spark plug with this book by my side, it was working as good as new! I have very little mechanical knowledge and could still pull off this, so for that reason alone it gets four starts! Im holding back on one star as it would have been benifitial for the pictures to have been in colour I feel.

Excellent for the beginners
Excellent easy to follow and understand, would be helpful with a trouble shooting section but still good in how to understand what individual parts are and what they do.
