It works well for downwind and for the cost is worth it. Full review below.
I thought I would post this review because I recently purchased this sail to use on my annual 3 day sea kayaking trip. During the three days I was able to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of this kayak sail. The short answer is this is a worthwhile purchase if you plan to do a long trip or you kayak regularly. The other 5 guys on my trip all stated they will buy one of these for next year. It's worth noting that my sea kayak has a rudder which helped to keep me headed downwind while using the sail.To anyone considering this you need to understand that it only works if you are heading downwind or relatively downwind. This is an obvious statement but over the three day trip I only benefited from this sail maybe 10-15% of my time on the water. In very light winds this barely makes a difference. During the times I had a solid tail wind I was probably averaging 2 maybe 3 knots. I know at some points I may have been moving faster but that was with a solid gust of wind which didn't last.To be clear, paddling is faster than using the sail. This sail is useful when you want to take a break but still keep moving. It would take pretty strong winds for this small sail to get the kayak moving as fast as an experienced paddler. The speed isn't the important thing it's that at one point (with a good tail wind) I traveled between two islands and only paddled 25% of the time. It was relaxing. I could raise the sail and then enjoy a couple of beverages while I was moving toward my destination. The other guys would gradually fall behind and then have to paddle to catch me.While most of the time it was folded up on the deck of the kayak, it was nice to have available for the times when the wind and my heading were aligned.Note: I did not find this very useful to combine with paddling. The issue is that in light winds I could paddle faster than the wind so the sail would fall backwards onto me. In stronger winds I found that I'd rather just cruise with only the sail because I could move along nicely. Also the sail area slightly overlaps the area of my paddle stroke so I found myself hitting the sail numerous times, but mostly it slightly effected my stroke so I couldn't paddle at 100%.Summary: For the cost of this product it is a great accessory to add to the kayak for the times that you can use it. For people who kayak regularly or take long trips, this is one of those things you didn't know you wanted until you use it. Once you have it you probably would take it on every trip just in case the winds are right. You may not use it that day but it doesn't add weight or take up space in the holds.I contemplated giving this 5 stars because it seems well made, but given it's only useful a small percentage of the time I can't rate it that high.

Junk, junk, junk
This is a low quality pos.We made the mistake of buying two of these due to the price. You get what you pay for. Very Lowe quality everything. The fabric, the fittings, the straps, the lines. All very cheaply made. Both where damaged out of the box. One had a gromet that was separate from the fabric were it attaches to the deck. The other one had a splintered diameter rod. We are going to spend the money to get quality sails. These are cheap knockoffs that would not last a day on the water.

Great idea that needs improvement
Slightly disappointed with the result of this product. It did not come with any instructions and once removed from the package I could not get it back inside. The material is very light weight and I’m not sure how it will hold up over time.

Not bad for the price
It seems to work but you have to have a lot of wind. Not bad for the price.

Worthless
I unpackaged and checked it over once before using; seemed fine. Tossed it in the kayak and went upstream. Opened it and found that the loop had broken and that the clear plastic had melted against itself and would not fully open. This was never left in a hot car or otherwise mistreated.

Fragile
Broke on first use. Would be ok if folding wasn't so stressful for the frame.
