Fairy gardens!
Bought this for my daughter for her birthday. She loves fairy gardens and said this book was a great resource.

Lovely book but hoping for more designs
I was a little disappointed when this book did not have any unique ideas. I've watched You Tube videos where you can add different layers with foam to create levels in areas.Easy if you want to do a a very basic design, but I was hoping for more creativity from this book.

Plenty of Wee Inspiration in this Book
Miniature gardens, fairy gardens, railroad gardens – they are all about small space gardening to the point that even if you only have an outdoor balcony you can grow a tiny garden scene. Plant it, decorate it, and add characters to it, it’s all to scale of course, no matter what size garden you have! Janit Calvo takes you through the steps of creating your own tiny living world in this charming book. Every page is packed full of wonderful photographs and ideas, you could really get lost in this art form. My favorite garden in the book was the pond in the pot, but many of her created gardens intrigued me. If the bug of gardening in miniature hasn’t bitten you, this book will send you right over to the wee side, a place you will never regret going! This is a good book to get you started, or if you already have some under your belt, Calvo helps inspire you to create more.

It's a Small World (Garden)
What a cute little book!. The pictures in this book are so lovely and colorful that I have been using it as a coffee table book. Every one that visits our home picks it up and looks at it and comments on beautiful pictures and clever ideas, The photos have given me tons of ideas on what to put in my little gardens and also gives lots advice on scale, plants and lighting. However, this reference book does not give enough advice for beginners, it's not for children or moms looking to do a project with her kids. This would definitely be for some one with an adult or some one with a green thumb.

Okay - not great.
This book got a great build up and a lot of hype prior to it's release, so after reading some reviews from her loyal followers my expectations were high. I was disappointed. This book was heavy on the photographs but a bit lite on new information. Anyone who is acquainted with the Two Green Thumbs web site already has seen most of what is contained in the book. This year there have been several books published on miniature and fairy gardening so there is a lot of information out there. This is a good book for beginners but nothing new for experienced miniature and fairy gardeners. Janit has a good eye for creating these gardens and they can easily be made from the pictures. I thought the plant choices given were limited. Overall, I enjoyed looking at the pictures, her step-by-step instructions were good for the beginner; content - again was good for the inexperienced, but I don't think I will be referring back to it. If you are new to miniature gardening this book will give you some good ideas on creating you own gardens.

Good Inspiration....lacking resource content
I have known about for some time. I have perused her website many times, and I have been doing terrariums, and these mini gardens for quite some time. I found some of the information to be very good regarding scale, and how to's, and the only reason I am giving it 3 stars is that there was not one reference to resource materials that i could find. (for the adornments)Over the years I have searched high and low, purused flea markets, online and standing shops to find treasures, but one thing I really look forward to in these manuals.....how to's.....is a great list of resources. Many of the items she is using are available through wholesale suppliers, I know as I used to work for a retail garden center, And I know a lot of the companies out there, but inevitably, those who are in the business of doing this stuff, going to the shows, are aware of many resources, and I usually learn of a new one or two,but nothing here, and that was a bit dissapointing.

Amazing photos but lacks guidance for beginners
I LOVE the pictures in this book. So inspiring and I am excited to create my own garden. The only thing I didn't love is that the book can be a bit confusing and seems to assume that the reader already knows quite a bit of information. I'm an absolute beginner, so I don't even know what plants to get or where to get them--I was hoping for more guidance with this kind of thing. I'll have to supplement with information from the internet, but it's definitely a fun book to look at and get some basic ideas.

More of a coffee table book, than any sort of helpful guide.
I was so excited to get this book, but it let em down. There are tips and ideas for building a miniature garden, but I found that the most important piece was getting the right place. The author actually wrote a considerable amount about why one should not just get a small plant and rather a true "miniature" variety. However, there are nearly no resources about how to locate these miniature plants. I was expecting, at a minimum, a list of specific plant varieties. I was hoping for a website where I could buy some. She merely offered that I look online and try my local nursery. So I tried 3 local nurseries, one a big box place. The people all told me that they didn't have a "miniature" section as she suggested in the book, and they weren't aware of having a miniature plants. At least with an appendix of specific plant names, I might have been able to get better help. It was a waste of money. I was initially thinking I would just use small plants, but she did successfully convince me that I shouldn't do that. I gave up and decided to use fake plants.

Inspirational images and text!
I'm confused as to why one reviewer claims the book may be too American for UK tastes, as I didn't even realise it was an American book! Nothing in the book is exclusive to America - yes perhaps the UK hasn't got miniature garden stores, but then I imagine huge swathes of the U.S. don't have these either! For me, as a complete gardening novice, I was surprised and pleased at how much I learnt from this book about planting and growing at any size, miniature or not! There are lots of little bits of gardening info that another book on the subject might have neglected, yet it's never a dry read. The author has a nice descriptive style, providing lots of detailed advice without ever being dull. There are tonnes of gorgeous ideas in the photos, and very good guides on how to do specific texts. Many beginners' books can be dull but not this one! It also has enough to offer a more experienced miniature gardener, with the inspiring images. It says everything that my copy is littered with post-it notes so I can follow up on so many wonderful ideas! It is also testament to its readability that this, a reference book, was my bedtime read!

SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT
I’m permanently looking out for great gifts - they need to represent value and be that little bit different without being a quirky … so I’ve ordered some as presents for family members (along with another by the same author) who enjoy crafts/modelling and/or gardening. Once, when hubby didn’t receive a book from anyone at Christmas, he seemed a little sad to not have something interesting to look through on Christmas Day - but I think these will solve that little problem this year!

Mini Gardens
This is a pleasant publication, especially for Americans. It is not quite as informative as John Constable's Landscapes in Miniature, but the pictures are beautiful and there is information about plants. As an Ulsterwoman I felt she was dealing with warmer climates than I am used to. However, the book is inspirational, especially for first-time mini-gardeners. I enjoyed it.

Inspiring
After seeing lots of miniature gardens on pin-interest, I thought that I would like to find out more. I chose this book and it is a lovely inspiring book, with many designs to whet your enthusiasm for this past time. The only down side is that being in the UK, this is American and it is hard to find some of the accessories here in the UK at a reasonable price. This has no reflection on the book as this is a lovely book to flick through time and time again and get inspired to create your own miniature world!

lakesidde picknick
I am new to miniaturews and dolls houses o this book really enlightened me. Unfortunately, I live in Greece and there are not many small enough plants available here.I made a scene in a tiny "warehouse" with some plants, a margarine tub for a lake and a deckchair with a picknicking lady beside it. Not too bad for a 1st scene!
