Best brand out there!!
I bought this to make the viral crystal candy ... these 3 bags will last forever!!! Such a good deal, it works awesome, currently very impatiently letting my crystal candy dry out (it's been 8 days lol) but this stuff is great!!! They don't expire for almost 2 years out and I will ALWAYS come back to this brand again and again!!

Get this for Japanese Crystal Candy
This is the stuff you need for Japanese Crystal Candy! I tried 2 other brands and they didn’t set like this brand does. Perfect!

A little foggy, but tasteless!
So as far as agar agar powder goes, this was my first run with it. I'd purchased it to try and make Kohakutou, which is a jelly candy. While making the mixture (water, agar agar) I noticed that it wasn't all that clear before I added the sugar. It's not necessarily an issue but if you're looking for an agar agar powder for aesthetic purposes I'd try another brand. When I added food coloring to the mixture it was a little difficult to stir with the toothpick, and I have to wonder if maybe that was because of the cooking time rather than the product itself. When the candies set up after a few days there was some nice color but still rather cloudy in consistency. The specific recipe I followed called to let the mixture set in the fridge, and then after cutting up to let air dry over the next few days to form a crystalline shell around the gelatin. If you're just making jellies then the agar mixture sets within a few hours just fine! I will say that when I was pulling apart the jelly it was really dense and thick, but figure that was either cooking time or the recipe I followed. As far as taste goes I didn't really smell or taste anything unusual when eating the candies outside of the sugar content I'd put in. When boiling the ingredients together in the pot though I did smell something, but it wasn't unpleasant. I'd say it was like a faint... like... grassy scent-- clean though. Not sure how to explain it, but it was faintly like boiling plants, lol. Which makes sense since agar agar is made from seaweed!

Just okay
I purchased this item for a recipe I was working with and it seemed to have done the job but I haven't used all of it and doesn't seem to have many other purposes
