Two Issues
First:It's supposed to be an accessory for an Apple product. We all know that one major aspect of Apple products is it's design. The device looks good with the metallic looking surface, however, something that is really bothering me is the fact that they implemented the USB ports the wrong way around. I know it's an esthetic thing - but still - who gave the ok to do that? This gives me the feeling it is not well thought through and for a price of 80$+ feels like Chinese cheap/fast production.Second:The main reason I bought it was because of the "smart link" which has some benefits in regards of stability. But most people like to use a protective case which (i already knew) will not work with this design. So basically this is just a heads-up for people who want to buy this and also use a case for their macbook.

Sleek Design, with some adjustments
Sooo. I just received my smart deluxe. The fit and finish seem nice, additionally it comes with a nifty case. Let's be clear there are a lot of connections on this thing, a wide variety to Include thunderbolt, USB-C, HDMI, 3 USB 3.0 and Micro and regular scan disk connections. For some reason i was expecting a built in network connection to this. No issue i have a USB to Network adapter plugged into it. Also big thing to note, is that due to the design and how it curves around at the PC side to get it snug with the PC i had to take off my bottom MacBook case to get it to fit. I wasn't expecting thatPROs: Numerous connections, most of everything you need in a sleek design, comes with a case.Cons: Requires the removal of any case already on your MacBook to work.Overall very good product, while there was never any claim by the vendor to have network connections (outside of thunderbolt) a tie in to RJ45, would have been nice but may have altered the sleek design. As such my only major issue is the fact that i had to remove the bottom of my protective case to get this on properly. For those with only 2 USB slots, this or another variation of a smart hub is a must.

A Decent Hub for Desktop Users
I bought this with my MacBook Pro to overcome the lack of connectivity on the 2018 MacBook Pro computers. The product build is solid and it fits the device well when I take the bottom protector shell off - which can be inconvenient at times. When using on a flat surface, I like that the adaptor fits snug to the device to minimize wear and tear on the USB-C plugs. However, when I use the adapter on on a laptop stand or on my lap, the advantages of this adaptor disappear. In fact, I'm always concerned when using it in mobile situations that the device itself may be placing unnecessary stress on the USB-C portal plugs. Since I use my laptop in mobile settings primarily, this has been a constant concern with this adaptor. Frankly, for mobile use, a dongle adaptor makes more sense. But if you plan to use this adaptor as a desktop hub, you're likely not going to find a better one. Good product for specific uses.

All Ports Installed Upside Down
Yep, somebody on the assembly line had no idea about port configuration and installed the USB 3.0 ports upside down. That means you can't see the face of flash drives or card readers or their operating lights because you have to insert them face down to plug into the port. That aside all the ports work as advertised. The quality of the product material is good. The two USB-C hub pins plug into my MacBook Pro 2017 with a firm but not tight fit. Time will tell if they remain firm or get sloppy. My charger wire plugs into the specified Thunderbolt 3 hub port firmly, almost tight. The remaining hub ports are also a good firm fit. All my peripheral flash drives and card readers worked perfectly. My external SSD T5 hard drive boots up perfectly every time. I rated this three stars for traveling and portability because a hub this size is bound to bang into something or rest the wrong way in your lap and the USB-C mounting pins will get stressed more than they should. Let's hope it is the hub pins that get stressed and not the internal ports in our computers. When used at a desk or table this hub should accommodate most of your non Thunderbolt 3 peripheral needs very well.

good if you have more than two c-ports
My only complaint is kind of a big one. This takes up two USB-c ports -- and I only have two.If you have a compatible computer with more than 2 USB-c's, then it is great.I will remain attached to the computer with no problem and the ports are accessible and work well. But I need two display connections so had to switch to a c-hub (with the charging port) and a c-HDMI cable for the other port.If I could, I would give this a 3.5.If I had more ports, I would probably give it a 5.The thunderbolt 3 port will charge OR handle a 2nd external display. Obviously, I need both.If you don't need that 3rd display (most people don't) or have more ports, then it's a strong 5 at this writing.

Does not stay attached if mobile
I was really excited to find a hub that hinge so stay more stably against the side of my laptop, and while that did happen with this particular hub, unless you keep the laptop in the exact same location and don't close it, the hub will wiggle a little loose and disconnect your connection. My problem with this was I had a microSD card in it housing my dropbox files and every time the hub lost connection, I had to restart the laptop to get my files to come back. And just to clarify, I'm not talking about traveling with the laptop, I'm talking about using it on your lap, closing it, putting it aside, picking it back up and opening it. A real shame because that hinge was brilliant. I would say get this only if you plan to keep your laptop in the same spot.

Happy with this product but have a suggestion
I ordered this to go with my new 2018 MacBook Pro so I would all the extra ports. So far it's worked great and is very stable when attached to the side of my laptop. The space grey color matches the space grey MacBook very well. My only suggestion is that the writing on the device be as dark as it shows in the picture. The picture shows the writing as black color which makes it easy to see. The one I received has very light gray writing which makes it hard to see which port is where. Other then that I would recommend this products.
