great resource
4.5/5 stars. This is a great resource for any first time mom who may not be feeling like her baseline in postpartum. There’s some valuable information in here to normalize the maternal response following the labor experience. This is a fantastic resource for therapists supporting individuals in postpartum. It has workbook like activities. Even if you don’t like to read, this book is great because it has many illustrations and is not dry. I would have gave it five stars if it did focus on the fact that it does get better. I wish it talked more on eventually feeling better physically, mentally and emotionally.

With the Buy
This is a great book to read during the thick of postpartum. It’s a super easy read and the content makes you feel seen as a new mom. I now give it to all my friends as a baby shower gift. If you’re a new mom struggling with the difficult thoughts that come with motherhood, buy this book.

A Great Start
I skimmed this book first when my second child was a newborn, and fully read it now that he is six months old. I needed it - wish I had it - with my first child, and really, really needed it with my second. I was introduced to it by my therapist who had it in her office and would occasionally pick it up to show me a specific entry. There is nothing like feeling "seen" by something in a book and that is ultimately what is helpful about this book. The advice and exercises ultimately fell flat for me but the simple ability to see thoughts I had had written in the thought bubble of an imaginary woman - so helpful. It is short and a quick read, not really meant to be read cover to cover as much as picked up here and there for the section you need. I hope it expands to include other social situations, as well as PPD/PPA well past the newborn period. The babies pictured and referenced were generally newborns. I didn't realize I had PPD with my first until she was 8 months old

This book is amazing!
I’m a doula and I have purchased several of these books. I give them away to clients after the birth of their baby. It’s such a fun and encouraging way for new moms to realize they aren’t alone and their feelings are valid.

I cried reading this
This isn't your usual "Having kids is tougher than expected, right?" book -- it acknowledges the things you've lost by becoming a new parent, as well as birth and pregnancy trauma, which are almost never talked about. I'm going to be honest, I cried through most of it. All the thoughts I was having trouble expressing were here, including the devastating loss of self, lack of privacy, and feelings of guilt mixed with overwhelming love. Just the fact that this many parents are also having these thoughts makes me feel less alone.
