Qualitative Data Analysis: An Expanded Sourcebook, 2nd Edition

This book is a life-saver! While it's not reasonable to expect to learn how to conduct effective analysis from a single text, this comes as close as any to describing the process of qualitative research analysis from start to finish.My doctoral advisor recommended Miles & Huberman. And to be honest, when I previewed the text (and the price) on Amazon, I was intimidated by the book. "Dense text, a dull topic, and a steep price tag," I thought. I was wrong on every count. The authors do a fantastic job of weaving the material together in a digestible way, they make the topic rather intriguing, and the book is worth every penny in terms of the guidance it offers.Miles & Huberman present tens (maybe hundreds, literally!) of research tools in this dense, but accessible, text. I believe novice and experience researchers alike would benefit; the authors take an overwhelming topic and distill it into a very straightforward (albeit, still realistic) discussion.

I'm writing my master's thesis and this book was recommended by my professor. The one she showed me was a newer version...but it also retails for over $120.00...after reading the reviews, Amazon "look Inside", etc., it did not seem worth it for the type of information it offers, and the changes in the newer book as opposed to this version...IMHO it seemed over-hyped. I have bought dozens of of texts over the years and have realized that unless you have very specific assignments...the older versions of the texts and some online research will usually suffice at a tiny fraction of the cost ($$$) of the "new edition". It is worth doing a little investigating before making your purchase.I got a great deal on this book at less than $15.00. I thought the vendor (a library) did a fine job fulfilling my order.RS

The expanded version of QDA has got to be one of the best foundational books on the subject of qualitative analysis. It has just the right depth and breath to lead the reader to the appropriate methodology for their research purposes and enough information to lead the reader to more in depth readings on procedures and analysis.

This is an older book, but the methodologies the authors write about are classic. I especially liked the almost conversational manner of the book with regard to how to manage and analyze data. I keep going back to this book time and again as it is so thorough and easy to read. My only critique would be that some of the more technical aspects of data management regarding computers are dated. Otherwise, I would say this is a great book for anyone interested in pursuing qualitative research.

This was required reading and as such it actually help me with the course of study. Hope it helps you too.

If you are in a graduate program, you need to add this book to your collection. I purchased this book twice and it was stolen from my office. That is how important this book is to qualitative researchers.

This is a great book. I am working on my doctorate, and I was looking for a supplemental textbook to read.

It was sold as «good as new». Far, far from it.
