Powerful and heartwrenching
Growing up, my father told me I was descendant of Taino Indians. As a teenager, I danced to Cheo Feliciano's ode to Anacaona. As a first generation Latina-American, I thought my dad's stories were folktales. I'm ashamed to not have asked more questions. Now both parents are gone and I'm left to research on my own.I read this story with a heartfelt curiosity about what happened to Anacaona. I finished this story with tears in my eyes.In today's American political climate, it is stories like this one that will make you want to learn more and gives you a better understanding of the pain people of color carry in our souls.Very well written and eye-opening!

Just owning the book
It is described as used. No ear marks, but for $35 the cover is pretty bent and torn.I would think that would come into consideration when pricing a book.I was not expecting that!
