Semi-How-To. Mostly "figure it out yourself"
I love the images. I'm not all that excited about the how-to on the techniques. I've tried to reproduce them, but the instruction isn't very thorough and I haven't had much success duplicating what Blockley has done. I'm not a new watercolorist. I do understand that this is a very random, serendipitous way of doing art and that no one, not even Blockley herself, could reproduce these paintings. That said, the techniques aren't working for me. I guess I'll just ignore the instruction (which is nothing if not incomplete) and try to figure it out on my own. That will probably work better.

Very Inspirational
To all those who complain and give the book bad reviews because there is not enough step by step how to material, this book does not claim to be a how-to book. It is true that there are no step by step instructions, so if you want that, this is definitely not the book for you. However, if you don't need to have your hand held through every process, but rather are seeking inspiration and jumping off points to experiment and think outside the box, then I highly recommend this book.

Not for beginners watercolor book!
I really do love Ann's paintings but just like in her Experimental Flowers book, her Experimental Landscapes book is photo after photo of finished artwork explaining how she did the painting. There are no photos of a step by step process, which is very disappointing. A lot of us learn by seeing and when you have page after page of completed artwork it gets tedious to just read about how it was done. I need to see the process step by step for myself. Very frustrating. Certainly not for beginners.

INSPIRATIONAL & INCREDIBLE
One of the best Art Idea and Technique type books I have ever read and I have read and own well over 400 titles. This book is so well done, and easy to understand...and can be followed by beginners or intermediate artists, but this is an Artists book for Artists, in my opinion. I believe anyone and especially all artists, beginners to professionals will benefit from reading this book. Truly, this is one of the most inspirational books I have ever read...and the format is excellent. The author discusses the supplies and techniques she has used for the beautiful paintings she has created, but this is not another book that takes up two or three chapters, listing basic art supplies and their use.. I loved her last book, ''Experimental Flowers in Watercolor'' too....but this one truly zeros in on the processes and techniques involved...I say BRAVO to Ann, and to people shopping for a Watercolor and or, even a Mixed Media How To book...you cannot go wrong with this one. Artists, if you are going through a ''dry'' or ''down'' time, this is just the book to inspire your creativity again.

Excellent, and innovative
The author introduces her techniques very clearly, and through a series of extraordinary and very skillful paintings illustrates their application. This has changed my painting, I now regard watercolor paintings without textures as missing an essential component. I have adopted use of texture and white paint along the lines she recommends, and feel my resources much enriched. A remarkable book. The printing is excellent, as needed to show the fine detail and richness of color her techniques deliver. This book makes a substantial contribution to watercolor technique.

Beautiful artwork!
This book is quite inspiring for those of us who are trying to get beyond the traditional in our artwork. Although I am not a watercolorist, I plan to apply some of the experiments to other mediums that I work with, most likely acrylic or oils. The author/artist presents an abundance of beautiful images with an explanation of how certain effects were achieved. The images themselves are enough to warrant owning this book.

Experimental WC
I've always liked her father's brooding style, so I looked into this book on his daughter's watercolor style and technique. Whether you paint more realistically or experimental, this book will enhance your skill with watercolors. While I prefer realism, her techniques will certainly help loosen up my painting. And some of the tools / techniques she presents are useful in either, and will be a major help in one developing their own unique style. I recommend it on that basis.

My Go-To book for inspiration!
This is a beautiful book that inspires an artist to try all sorts of new ideas. I was a little afraid when I started painting again after not painting for a long while. This book helped me to break the ice and get back into life and allow the paint to flow. I now use this book as my go to for inspiration and courage. It is a gorgeous book with enough ideas to springboard most anyone into action. I work in watercolor and pastel and my work is much more spontaneous and enjoyable because of this book. It is a must in my library! I can get a million new ideas by just looking through it.

Beautiful innovative art
Very creative and exactly the sort of art I would like to create (or buy!). However, this isn't for the beginner and there's more of a mixed media approach that I hadn't quite sussed before buying. Also, there are lots of images but no step by step on how to build up the layers on each of them. So, inspiring, but a bit of a leap for someone at my level, for which reason I knocked off a star.

Inspiring artistic magic
As a watercolour artist of over 30 years painting, this book is an absolute gem and a must have read. I found the content inspiring and motivational whilst being written in a clear and easy read. The book quality is first class and the print and illustrations of Ann Brockley’s artwork are excellent. It is a lovely sized book to handle and read too. Ann Brockley really does express with much enthusiasm how to be free and experimental in helping any artist express an image with individual taste allowing the inner creativity to come forth without limitations. I really enjoyed this wonderful book immensely and have no hesitation in recommending it to artists of all levels to have some creative fun!

A brilliant art book if you like mixed media and watercolour
This book takes me right back to experimenting at art college which has opened another channel for me with my art, I had forgotten all the different techniques, so I am reliving my creational skills.

Beautiful
I am so pleased with this book, I am pretty new to watercolour in the sense that I don't really know what I'm doing but within a few pages I have been experimenting with the use of salt, ink, syringes, you name it. The book is wonderfully illustrated and quite frankly I have fell in love with the artist her work is pure expression and it makes me feel very free. The text is very easy to understand but forget the text but the book for the illustration alone because it's beautiful.

Experimental Landscapes
Amazing book, very inspirational - I have also bought the earlier book Experimental Flowers in Watercolour AND the DVD . ( The DVD was wonderful as it showed her actually painting 7different projects - Gobsmackingly fantastic) They are all amazing and I absolutely love them. I am a beginner but this is a style I will definitely experiment with at a later stage. I see from Ann's website that she has book launches in May / June 2014 and will also be showing her work. It would be lovely to see it in the flesh. Also I have discovered that she is the daughter of John Blockey who was (I am reliably informed) an amazing and exciting experimental artist. I have seen some of his books and they are fascinating too.
