Readable creepy thriller from the golden age of horror paperbacks.
I haven’t finished a book in ages; decreased stye span and electronic distractions. But I finished this one in a few days. The movie adaptation impacted me when choosing I was a kid. I was reintroduced to the material by the e-book, “paperbacks from hell” which documents the horror paperback explosion of the 80’s.On a whim I bought the kindle version for less than three bucks; I would have thought it would be long out of print and unavailable. It’s not literature. It’s tells a strange story in a very straight forward, easy-to-read, way, without any poetry. If you’ve seen the movie, there were necessary changes to make a psychological thriller more cinematic, but the story is the same; a creepy variation on the Psycho template. Murder and sex are minimal and tasteful.

Creepy as heck!
Found this gem after reading a couple of VC Andrews' works, after reading that Niederman was her ghostwriter. Was sufficiently creeped out pretty much the entire book, and read it in its entirety within two days. It's a quick read, and makes you really want to find out what will happen next. You could feel the tension as soon as you started Chapter One. I do have a lot of questions upon finishing it, though, and Ursula's character just didn't feel very realistic to me, how dependent she was on her brother, and what she did at the end of the book. Just doesn't jive. Otherwise, it was a great book and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the horror genre. I'm looking forward to watching the movie now.

Crazy people are fun!
I am glad this book was reissued. I had not read it for some years. I had forgotten how gripping it is.Wow! The entire family is mad! Nuts! Father is cold and distant, Mother is a clean-freak, Leon is obsessed by Pin, and Ursula (love that name!) cannot stay away from her crazy brother, even though it seems like sometimes she tries to. She even tries to have a normal life and becomes engaged to Stan which ends in disaster.Neiderman is a master at gripping suspense and horror. It is no wonder that he has been so popular for so many years. I always look forward to each and every release from him - even if it is a reissue of one of his older books. I also look forward to every one of his V. C. Andrews books.Yes, a master for sure!

Good, old fashioned pulp horror
Andrew Neiderman is one of the worlds highest selling authors, mainly through his work as a ghostwriter after the passing of VC Andrews in 1986. His novels can often be a hit or miss affair. Fortunately, PIN is a hit, rather than a miss. PIN tells the story of Ursula and Leon, a pair of orphaned teenagers. Ursula is a sweet young woman who does her best to accommodate her mentally unstable older brother and his fascination with PIN, a mannequin from their father's doctors surgery. When Ursula falls in love, Leon and PIN know that they must take action, or risk seeing their family torn apart.Overall, PIN was decently written and offered just enough suspense to keep me turning the pages. Recommended for anyone who wants to read a good old fashioned mass market horror novel that doesn't rely on sassy characters, technology or glitter.

Rational insanity
Like the best of Poe characters, Leon, the lead character makes insanity and the nastiest perversions sound so delightfully reasonable.

Paperback Missing Pages
The story is great, but my paperback copy is missing six pages (jumps from page 146 to 153). Looks to be a manufacturing error, as the binding is strong and intact. Bummer since I bought this brand new and missed out on some of its content.

Weird But Good!
I liked it except for the cheap version of the cover. They took out the die cut reveal.

Glorious campy fun horror with a twist.
I originally wanted to read this book because I had read all of the Virginia Andrews novels and wanted to read the books by the man behind Andrews.... It turned out to be so much better than I thought it would be, it's twisted, weird, funny, macabre, scary and great all at once.... A great book I could recommend to any horror fan ;)
