Great Review from 100 inmates
Hello. So I have a family member that is in a correctional center and they are allowed to receive books only if they come directly from Amazon. How crazy right? Anyways...My family member asked me to send him some prints of Yoga exercises but I decided to look into a book since I know it's less about the positions and more about the flow and full session.Well.... HE LOVED IT! All of his "friends" also greatly enjoy this book and they've been practicing together as a group everyday for 30 minutes. Some books he is planning on bringing home but he said he's going to donate this to the library since so many people have found it helpful. He has read a few guides to Yoga for men before jail and he said this one is by far the best. I know this is a super weird review but I figured I would share!

Well done and succinct, lays flat without damaging spine
Most importantly, this book is not just for men. I initially purchased this book as a supplement for my home workouts using Dean's yoga videos, not as a stand alone, but find that it would work for both. It is very well done. Easy to follow layouts, nicely illustrated, concise captions. Worth purchasing, and happy I did. Some reviewers have had trouble getting their book to lay flat / stay open. I was able to get my book to open nicely without damaging the book at all. Begin at the back of the book, open the back cover, and firmly run your hand down the interior spine to fully open and lay flat the back page. Repeat this for the next few pages, and then continue on every couple of pages. It will only take a few minutes to work your way through the entire book, and it should open flat without assistance. Another option that I've done many times over the years with our homeschool books, is to take the book to an office supply store, ask them to cut off the binding, and have them punch and spiral bind for you. Typically costs about $6 or so. I've done this many times, but find that this spiral binding never holds up well over time with a book that is frequently used. I can't tell you how many piano books I've had spiral bound, only to have them fall apart, and then have to spend money to replace. That said, it may work very well for this book because of the nice heavy weight of the paper stock used. Just wanted to share my experience. I'm not having any issues with my book now, and it lays perfectly flat.

Excellent Yoga book for the healthcare practitioner!
As a physical therapist, part of my job includes home or gym exercise regimens that my patients can follow seamlessly and most importantly, incorporate into their daily lives. Yoga is one of them. In fact, there are certain poses I recommend on a daily basis. One thing I explain to busy folks - it does not have to be a full routine. You can absolutely pick certain poses you like and do what works for you!Dean Pohlman does exactly that in this book. He simplifies the techniques with stunning easy to follow high quality photos using a step-by-step approach that goes straight into the details of the exercises. He provides logical and easy to understand instructions including: “what you feel” and “what you shouldn’t feel”. The introduction is quite short and then dives into individual routines almost immediately. These routines are categorized into positions while doing the poses: standing, kneeling, balance, seated, front-lying, and back-lying.The second part of the book is quite useful as it provides workouts to follow. This is great for those who simply want to open the book, pick a goal for the day and then just follow the list. A great example is stiff neck relief - which starts from a progressive mobility drill on the thoracic and lumbar spine and included arm/shoulder movements as well as core work. There are also balance, restorative and strengthening programs that are easy to follow. Last but not the least, you can pick your difficulty, and even body region: shoulder, ankle, hip, etc.One tip I would give since it is hard to keep the actual book open when you’re trying to follow the techniques is take a photo of the routine and use your phone or iPad as a way to follow through the routine. Or get the kindle version and you can view it using the kindle app and then follow along the routines. Take a snapshot of your fave routine and you’re set! I see a spring bound version in the future!

Clear, Concise, Easy to Understand.
What I love about this book is how clear it is. There's no flowery language to decipher. No random insertion of some sort of spiritual practice. The images are very well shot, and cover every angle you need. And my absolute favorite parts are the "Not There Yet?" sections. I had knee surgery and there are some poses I just can't do the regular way anymore. This book has modifications that make sure you're still working the correct muscle groups. I've noticed marked improvement in my ability to perform these movements, and it's all because the book made sure to include a way to work towards your goals. And if you'll excuse my nerd-out, This book is laid out beautifully. I'm a graphic designer by trade, so I really appreciate just how much care was taken to make everything in the book easy to understand. There is a lot of information, but I never once felt overwhelmed.I've only done a few of the included workouts, but I'm looking forward to working through them all. My current fave is the "Too Much Sitting" which is super helpful for someone in my line of work!

I highly recommend it. It has a lot of pictures with explanations in color and also 3 programs super complete and each program has different phases so it’s quite complet. For each phase it’s easy to understand how to performance it, with pictures and explatanations. I just loved it!! It’s motivating as I wanna move on to the next phase/step but I force to performance properly all sequences, I really recommend

Finally a no nonsense yoga book for men! Simple, short workouts that really feel great!
This book has transformed how I as a man think about yoga. Using this book I started a consistent yoga practice. It feels great. Especially since stretching is not something I do on a daily basis. The book is simple, to the point, has great pictures and explanations. I suggest you start with one of the 12 week workout plans. They feel amazing!

A clear and well illustrated book of yoga poses and exercises.
In this book Dean provides an amazing amount of information that is well organized into the individual poses, workout routines for specific issues and therapeutic exercise regimes. This is an excellent reference book with amazing photography of each pose with notes on proper stance and places where correction of posture is important. When a routine is suggested, each pose is shown and described as to how many repetitions or pose duration in order to accomplish your goals. I would highly recommend this book for any person wanting to increase flexibility, strength and improve posture.

The Yoga handbook I’ve been waiting for!
Anyone with even a passing interest in Yoga would do well to test drive this book. It’s just as impressive as Dean Pohlman’s DVD and YouTube videos. I don’t want fancy graphics -what I do want is clear, easy to follow instruction and this book really delivers. It is packed with information that is easy to understand as well as plenty of clear photographs. All in all, it is a very well laid out handbook and comes highly recommended (by me)! Definitely my go-to yoga manual from here on.

Great yoga reference for any skill level
This is an essential guide for any guy who does or wants to do yoga. The illustrations are detailed and descriptions are spot on. The pro tips are great for more mindful practice. It’s really easy to isolate standalone poses for custom warm ups or routines - especially helpful if you’re dealing with an injury. The workouts flow nicely and are a great bonus at the end of the book.
