Great for beginners
Been playing chess for a few years and needed a straightforward resource to up my opening game. This book came at the perfect time. It contains a plethora of different opening syles to choos from, each of them thoroughly explained with the theory and strategy behind. Excited to go apply some of these openings and get some people rekt on chess.com :)

Another great chess book by Cory Klein!
Wow! I had no idea this much thinking and strategy went into the beginning of chess games. I used to just play and see what happens which explains why I lost so many games early. There is quite a lot to account for and I feel like I'll have to go over these openings multiple times, but at least I have the information I need. The example games are super helpful as well, and the analysis makes it much easier to understand the strategy behind each opening. Great read!

Nice book for beginners and amateurs
Nice book for beginners, or for amateur and chess enthusiastic to learn about the main first moves for all openings.I encourage the author to correct some minor notations that are wrong during explanations, like mentioning d5 when it was e5. The pictures show all so for understanding it is Ok.

Game changer
Easy to read and full of insighful advice on openings. Does require a bit of repetition as there are many openings but still very helpful.

Very good overview
This book is a great introduction and summary of openings. The beat part is it covers the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Excellent, succinct guide to openings
As a chess beginner, this is the best book on chess openings that I have read. The openings are bifurcated into e4 and d4 opening moves with the various defences set out for each of these initial moves. The subsequent moves are set out to a depth of 5-6 moves but the openings are then illustrated by the salient features of actual games. I have generally found books on openings to be unreadable because of the mass of detail they throw at the reader exploring arcane lines. Not this book - I read it from cover to cover and felt the wiser for it.

Time to level up
Quality of book is a little cheap but it's compact and handy and contains a lot of info. Pictures are ok but for a beginner's book the could have added the letters and numbers to the rank and file. On the plus side the information is top notch. Key stages of popular lines are illustrated unlike some other books. Good for people who have won a few games and now want to level up.

Overpriced for the amount of useful information
This was a useful book in listing the most common chess openings and giving a brief assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of each one. However, the information given of the openings of famous chess games was of limited use for a beginner and more explanation of each one was needed.

A lightweight publication in my view.
As a new student of the dark art of Chess ,I was underwhelmed by this book. Some good information ,particularly the top ten tips for opening your game at the start.Otherwise the openings weren’t covered in any great detail. No more information really than I had already come across on a standard computer search.I always hope a study aid is going to challenge my knowledge and add to my understanding of the subject, for me it didn’t deliver.

Useful for beginners
I bought this on Kindle as a follow-on from The Ultimate Guide for Beginners and I find it really useful to dip in and out of. It explains how to respond to the basic openings in chess and the reasonings behind the moves. Examples are also given from real chess matches. Pleased with the Kindle version.
