Q: Is this good for experiments in levitation? Like can you float pyrolytic graphite sheets on top of this?

Q: What strength of rope do i need for this

it depends on what you are doing with it. I use this for mag fishing so i spent the extra money and i use marine anchor rope. That stuff supports the ability to pull a 300-500 pound anchor so it will work for what you might need to do.

Q: How does the magnet release so you have to just man handle it off

Pretty much have to man handle whatever ya stick it to to release it...good thing is it won't just pop off whatever you are pulling ..
