A beautiful book filled with wonderful photographs and indispensable information about the great Gothic cathedrals in France.

If only this book's good information were more visible than it is in this edition. When my chosen tome happens to be this one, an evening curled up with a good book ends up unsatisfactory (I tend to be ever the optimist and forget the misery of forcing my mortal eyes to stay with two or more solid pages of 6-point type, encountered all too often). As another reviewer has indicated, there likely exists another printed version of this, not digitally miniaturized as this apparently has been. Buy it for the informative though small pictures and the range of its details; but not for actual readability.

The most beautiful book!

The Ullmann publication (2007) of this book is a smaller printing of the original Koneman publication. I was disappointed because the illustrations are MUCH smaller and the print is almost unreadable. It's the exact same book just several inches smaller all the way around. The quality of the illustrations is also grainier than in the original Koneman publication. I took the shipping loss and returned my copy.

Very small pictures ( nice and crispy, but very small), hard to appreciate what they are talking about, and even more if you want it as visual reference. The quality of the book in general is good, so if you are not for the pictures...it is a good one.

I own the original edition of this book (see above) and it was sumptuous and beautiful in every way. Then I looked at the dimensions in the product description. My version was 12" x 12" (give or take). This edition is significantly smaller and not nearly as impressive. The text is the same, just shrunk down. Books like this need size to properly display the objects and places they are describing. Size does matter in art books! I ran into this problem trying to replace a book on Botticelli that had suffered water damage. I remembered it as magnificent but its replacement years later (same author, same material) was a sad disappointment. I've since noticed that there are a lot of books that I own from years past being reissued in smaller formats. Same covers, same authors, same material but inferior size and quality. Beware! Even at cheaper prices, some things just aren't worth it.

sempre gostei da arquitetura gótica. Em pensar que no período em que estas grandes obras foram construídas sem o porte tecnológico que temos hoje, talvez seja este o ápice de meu fascínio pela grandiosidade da arquitetura gótica. Uma obra fascinante tanto pelo tema abordado como pela primorosidade fotográfica. Creio que o de melhor da arquitetura gótica europeia foi reunido nesta obra.

I ordered this book in the morning and received it in the evening. It is an amazing book with so many pictures and this price!
