The Rough Guide To The Music Of Pakistan

Another of a fine series
The World Music Network produces consistently excellent recordings. The audio quality is amazingly consistent, despite the fact that these tracks are recorded under widely different circumstances across several continents. I appreciate the mix of traditional and popular music on these Rough Guide discs, which I use on my radio program Caravan. I supplement the helpful liner note information with the Rough Guide world music books.

Bad recording
Sub standard recording, worse than MP3 quality. The overall song selection is average, however, track 12 alone would pay your money's worth.

A stellar collection
To my ears, one of the best Rough Guide collections yet -- a mellow, beautiful, hypnotic set of Sufi "qawwali" religious vocals, secular-romantic "ghazal" songs, as well as some modern pop and tribal instrumental tunes. It all flows together quite well -- this disc is nicely programmed for continuous listening, and all the music on it is top-notch and captivating. Includes big-name artists such as singer Abida Parveen and the inevitable Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan entry, but also a slew of lesser-known, but no less talented other musicians. Highly recommended!
