1840's Large CentThe Large Cent was one of the first coins struck under the authority of the new U.S. government, and was minted from 1793 to 1857. The coin is 13.48 grams of pure copper and measures 27 to 29 millimeters in diameter--more than 4 times heavier than our modern cents and nearly half again larger in diameter.
