A great read
I can see Kate Furnivall becoming a favorite author. This was one of those can’t put down books - twists and turns as the plot developed and unfolded. Positioned as the 2nd World War looms in Paris and the Nazi controls are developing. The main character is a troubled woman affected by an incident which happens at the start of the book. This episode has left her reckless, an early aviatrix and supporter of resistance at home and in Spain. Also involved is her twin sister and the chapters unfold from one to the other with general chapters interspersed which keeps the storyline flowing. A colorful, well scripted book and now I am looking for the next of her books to read.

THE BRTRAYAL
If you enjoy books by Pam Jenoff, this is a must read for you. It is about the Resistance of France against Nazi Germany. She is ferrying aeroplanes into Spain for their revolution. This book contains many stories about the struggle between Pro-Germany and French revolutionaries. Until the last page you are kept in suspense.

A real page turner
An unusual story that keeps you guessing. Set against the background of impending war, this is a story of very complex relationships. The line between right and wrong is constantly being challenged. You have to keep reading.

Captivating read
The Betrayal is one of the books that kept me reading into the late hours of the night. I enjoyed the historic facts and the strong female characters.

Fantastic reading!!
This was by far the best Kate Furnivall I've read in years. It had me from the first page, and I wouldn't have put it down if it hadn't been for work, meals, and family. 😀

France, twin sisters, WWII, what is not to love
I loved this. A story set in France just before the start of WWII, with twin sisters who have diametrically opposing points of view, and both of whom have secret lives. One is an aviatrix, the other a glamorous politicians wife, and both are bound together by the murder of their father eight years ago. This is a book where nothing is ever what it seems. It's a romantic book (though not a romance) in the sense of wild ideals, high adventure and danger, and some truly wonderful characters, goodies and baddies! It is stuffed full of history and a setting that you don't often see and yet it manages not to be anything like stuffy. It hurtles along at a cracking pace, and for once the ending was exactly what it should be. Did I say I loved it?

Ok for people brought up on Disney princess, the film The day after tomorrow, Flashdance Boring!
Badly written, it was difficult going in and out of the two sister's heads. Especially, since it was in these strange streams of consciousness. Short, badly written sentences that came across as 'Allo, Allo!' ( British comedy about French Resistance ( BBC 1982-1992). Sleep deprivation mixed with alcohol in those small planes she would have died. Also, the female pilot's sexual behaviour was pure fantasy. Unbelievable since until the pill women died giving birth or abortions. Babies need; food, money and attention. Also before the 2nd World War, this behaviour would have marked her and she 1st she would have been ostracized. Even in Paris! Being Drunk, she would have been set upon and raped. During the occupation, things change. As with before the Occupation, Chanel was a second-rated poor quality seamstress. During, having been a lover of a Nazis she went up in the world. Even though, her clothes still were badly cut and feel apart. If the female pilot went to the night club, she would have had to have a make-over, not just wash in a little bowl. The characterisation was appalling. The two main leads one likes the 'high life' ignore the approach of Hitler. The other a dysfunctional, lonely, alcoholic. Neither of which I feel any sympathy. The development of characters, the slotting back and forth using the pigeon, short sentences. Boring characters, believe me, I have known people that live through the war and they were much more interesting and the did not have glamorous lives or jobs. I was looking forward to an adventure, romance. Instead, it was boring. Better for people brought up on Disney princesses, the film The day after tomorrow, Flashdance. It was a badly written, at times confusing. Dire escapism and lacking in truth.

Good in parts
This started well, and it was interesting to be reminded of the history of the times and the divide between those in Europe who supported Hitler and those who didn’t. As the story developed, however, I found it increasingly difficult to care about the characters, none of whom were particularly likeable or engaging. The style was at times too mushy and overwritten for my taste. The end threw up some complicated plot twists, one of which was unconvincing. I wouldn’t say don’t read this, and I will try another by the author one day but on the present showing, I’d say other writers of this kind of book, for example Victoria Hislop, have written better.

A thrilling tale!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It perfectly evoked the time just before the outbreak of the last war when neither France nor England really believed there would be a war with Germany, despite Hitler’s aggression towards the Sudetenland. The French underground could already see the power of the Nazi regime and it’s drive against the French Jews and were active in trying to undermine fascism that was already a bloody fight in Spain.Add the bond that twins share but on opposite sides of the fight and you have a thrilling, well written fast paced tale of deception and intrigue.I recommend this as a great read!

Fantastic
I have enjoyed all the books by Kate Furnivall. She writes so well and each book is a page turner. What a period to live in in Paris just prior to the beginning of the Second World War with dangers around every corner. The characters in the book were very real to me and the truth of what happened to Romaine was gradually fed into the plot with a most surprising ending. Thoroughly recommended
