An easy saccharine read.
I bought this title due to a reference in an article on Medium. I have a respectable collection of Zen flavored books. Consider it a simple conversation to remind you to be gentle with yourself and others. Opening is a sweet, easily read, sometimes slightly off its own points, entry level mindfulness title. But then I'm told I am sweet but sometimes slightly off my own points. Opening is on my Zen shelf with the others. I found three passages to underline, one page to turn the corner on, and another to place an orange sticky note. I only use those when something is good to reflect on.

Laugh and Cry
Great book, especially if your heart is revolving door! And it's even pretty handy for a roller door kind of heart, as long as you remember the remote control. Ajahn Brahm tells great stories that engender compassion and move you to laugh and cry. Laugh because he's a monk and your not and monk's have to put up with terrible things. And cry because he's a monk and you're not and monk's gain so much wisdom. So laugh and cry. Unless you ARE a monk, in which case, you'll cry and laugh. Either way, it is a book that should open your heart. Hopefully from the deep profound and caring stories, but if not from your heart going out to the monks who get bitten by mosquitos, eat rotten food, put up with structural hierarchy and yet still have to deal with their own petty minds bitching about things like everyone else does. Deep kindness and gratitude for such a book. I shall never again complain about food. Until I do. And then I'll blame for myself for complaining. And then complain about my blaming and complaining. And then I'll complain that I complain. And I'll know that I am overdue to read Ajahn Brahm's great book once more.

Love it !
Those who know Ajahn Brahm will know that he is a great teacher with a very good sense of humour. I like his teachings a lot because he uses real life stories to let us understand Dammah. He makes Buddha's teaching simple and easy to understand. 'Opening the door of your heart' has a good collection of Ajahn Brahm's teachings. They are all very enlightening!

Heartwarming and extremely educational.
As a Buddhist of the Theravada way, I highly recommend this book and any other written by Ajahn Brahm. He is a master at dispensing Buddhist wisdom in a very easy way of comprehending it. He is the real deal.

Inspiration, humor and comfort
A great collection of stories from a modern fun monk. He has a great sense of humor that you may not expect from such a religious character but it makes him human and I instantly warmed to his teaching.A real London boy and certainly has the gift of the gab. That's not to say he is not a serious Buddhist but his teaching is very westernized and easy to relate to.The stories can easily be understood by any one from children to pensioners. A lot of the stories will provide comfort and understanding for life's problems.Check him out on Youtube there is lots of him and you will find many of the stories in the book being used for live meditation and talks. You can also download some of his recordings if you do a quick search. Amazon don't allow links here but I'm sure you can find them.

It always has a good effect, and gives me laugh when I remember ...
A collection of stories selected to show the powerful effect of applying kindness and caring to many situations and problems. I have used Ajahn Brahm's 'Welcome the pain' suggestion, with confidence derived from his well told stories. It always has a good effect, and gives me laugh when I remember the accompanying jokes. Laughter is the best medicine and there are plenty of doses in this book.

No need to be a monk, but it helps to see through their eyes!
Ajahn Brahm is an hugely entertaining Buddhist monk who came from London, having studied at Cambridge, UK and now living in W.Australia where he runs retreats for those wishing to come to peace and consolidate their learning s.this book is a resume of the talks (available via YouTube), the like you may never have heard or seen before. Brahm is almost more a stand up, or sit down comedian with his wit and repartee.Invaluable knowledge, sadness and joy can all be found in this timeless classic. Is it for you? YES!
