Useless design
In principle, this is a great tool. Its sturdy. It's easy to assemble. It's not overly expensive. However, it simply doesn't work! The arms don't unfold so you may as well just have a sharp stick. If there were a method to open out the arms on the thing it would be amazing. But there isn't. So the thing is a total waste of money. Hugely unimpressed

Doesn’t really do the job
Purchased this to go with my new composter as it looked the correct tool. Unfortunately in practice it doesn’t grasp the vegetation sufficiently to turnover / aerate the contents as the folding arms can stay closed. A small fork would do job better in my view.

Could be very good but needs modification - pokes great holes though!
I bought this to replace a plastic compost turner that had provided years of good service.Very disappointing.. it has great 'poke' to get down deep in the compost bin but only very occasionally does a wing open, and never a pair. So not much use at all. Having read more reviews we are now going to try drilling a hole in the shaft and putting a bolt in to stop the wings folding up so close. Hopefully this will solve the problem. If not I would recommend the ones at getcomposting dot com which are under a tenner and absolutely brilliant.

Cheap but sturdy product does the trick :)
Over the past 6 weeks my compost box has gone from a year worth of unusable kitchen and garden mess of mulchy matter to almost ready to use rich brown compost by turning it with the help of this simple tool :DYou push it in, turn it clockwise to unfold the wings and haul it back out, it churns up a good amount of bottom layer matter and the movement leaves an airy pocket without completely turning the area over. It agitates just the right amount to get everything breaking down nicely :)The item is sturdy, easy to assemble and use with good handles in a T shape making it better for your back and easier to grip than the L shaped similar tools. It could do with being a tad longer, especially if you have a deep composter. This will sink in almost 3 feet but that is with the handles touching the pile.It is also nice to meet the worms who live in the composter and do the real hard work when the layer they munch about in is pulled to the top. Turns out Devil's coachmen beetles like compost bins too which is a lovely surprise as they are beautiful and unusual beasties. :)

Doesn't work. DO NOT BUY
I am really disappointed with this tool. The flip arms do not open no matter how many times or how you twist it. It just comes up from the compost closed and does not mix it at all. I asked to return it because it is not fit for use and I have been told I have to pay for postage which is £6.50 due to its weight so I will be losing money even by returning it. Please be warned. I have since found an aerator with a very small opening spike that is perfect because it opens much easier. NOT FIT FOR WHAT IT IS INTENDED.

Well made but not very practical
Item is well made and SHOULD work well but the side pieces don't open out at all when in the compost, no matter how much the aerator is twisted or turned. The compost itself seems to stick them in the closed position. Will have to fiddle with it to get it more usable. Slightly disappointed.
