Works great
The title of this product is a little misleading--it says it's an automatic switch, which it isn't. It's a wireless remote controlled plug. You plug this into you wall/power outlet and then plug the device that you want to control into this. You can then turn the power to your device on and off using a small wireless fob that looks a lot like a car key fob. There's really nothing automatic about this--unlike similar looking devices, this one won't turn on power to a second device when you activate the first device (such as turning on a dust collector when you trigger your chop saw).I got this to use with my shop vac so I can turn it on and off without having to walk over to it. It works great for that purpose. As an added bonus, it also has two delayed "off" buttons, where if you push the delayed off button it will run for an additional 5 seconds (or 10 seconds depending on which button you push) before shutting off. That's nice to be able to let it run to clear any remaining dust out of the hose.It claims to have a soft start feature to prevent the large current rush that can happen when you switch on a large motor (and can cause a circuit breaker to trip). I don't have a good way of verifying that claim; it doesn't seem to make a difference in how my shop vac starts up (as compared to when the shop vac is plugged directly into the wall and powered on using the vacuum's switch), but that could be because the vacuum isn't drawing enough power to make a difference.Regardless, this fits my needs and seems to be sturdily built to handle the rigors of a workshop environment. The remotes use a 2032 button battery, but to change it requires a very small philips screwdriver (I used a #0) to remove three screws on the back of the remote. It's a bit of a pain, but the benefit of it being this way is that it appears that the remote is well sealed from dust and moisture (though I wouldn't submerge it in water).

Not *automatic*
First things first- this switch is not automatic as stated. It is remote controlled and works fine in that capacity, but doesn't do anything automatically.I assumed from the "automatic" claim that it would activate a secondary device such as a vacuum or dust collector when a primary device like a sander, saw, router etc. is turned on. There are an infinite number of those available, but this isn't one. This still has it's uses. I put it in line with my primary dust collection system which services a number of different tools. It's convenient to use the remote to turn on the duct collector when using my table saw or CNC machine as opposed to having to go to the dust collector directly. There are a lot of potential uses for a remote controlled outlet like this, just be aware that the item description is misleading. In terms of operation it works perfectly, but I took a star off for the discrepancy in the description.

I Love This Thing!
I have a workshop in my basement and dust is something I am very careful to ensure I contain in my shop and do not allow It to drift upstairs into the rest of my home.My power tools are easily attached to a vacuum system, but it is a pain in the neck to have to walk to the power button every time I have to turn the vacuum on or off. This wireless remote switch has changed all of that. I can now control the vacuum without having to walk back and forth, and the noise now doesn't last as long. With pressing a button from a small fob, I can control the dust and noise so much more easily and efficiently.Nice!!

Remote switch that works well for shop vac
I have a couple of automatic switches for turning on the shop vac. But not every application can use them. This one is ideal for use with portable power tools and the like. The remotes allow the switch to turn on whatever is plugged in. The remotes have additional buttons that allow the vacuum to run either five or ten seconds longer. Not sure how helpful that is as you can just turn it off a little later but so it is. Truthfully, though apparently designed for use with vacuums, it could serve as a remote switch for anything.

great switch
great switch for a dust collector. simple to use with the remote. so simple to set up and use. 2 remotes allows me to mount on the table and keep another hanging near the hose. great remote system.
