Unbelievable value for money
On the cover the electric bass is the dominant image, but it's the acoustic (double) bass player that will get 100% from this book; some of the lessons just don't translate to the electric bass and have to be skipped. The coverage of techniques, though, is vast. There are 100 lessons, and with at least three audio examples per lesson you will have several hundred masterclass snippets to listen to. Their quality is excellent.Oh, and you can download the audio; you are not tied in to having to log in every time you want to hear the music. It is worth doing that sometimes, though, because the Hal Leonard online Playback software is a work of genius. You can change the pitch and speed of the examples, you can loop them. You can balance left to get the bass as the dominant sound (so you can hear what your playing should sound like), or balance right to get the trio (so you can be the bass player), or leave centred to hear the ensemble effect. All examples in the book are shown as tab as well as bass stave (bass parts only, of course). The book is also full of tips and advice. It really is like having one-to-one lessons with a pro.Take a look at the table of contents. This book is unbelievable value for money. It will take ages to thoroughly excel at all the lessons; you will need to dedicate your life to jazz bass playing. You will need to live, dream, and "be" bass.
