A must if you're going to pack bear spray
If you're going to carry bear spray, you should know how to use it. This inert practice cannister is exactly what you need so that you know how to properly use bear spray before you have to use it in a real situation. Just like with a firearm, you need to go to the range and learn how to use it. Likewise, this product offers the opportunity to practice. (Though in this case, the 'range' is your backyard.)There is a small learning curve when using bear spray, and you don't want to be reading the instruction while Yogi is charging at you!

A helpful learning tool
Neither my husband nor adult daughter had ever deployed bear spray before so I bought this inert spray for them to learn from. Both were startled by the sound and force of the spray coming out and are not much better prepared to accurately aim and deploy it if needed. This is well worth the money if you’ll be in a high density grizzly area.

Does What it Says
It was a good thing we got this because I had no idea that the range of their bear spray is only about 15 feet. Better to know it now from this practice canister than to find out in a real world situation. If you are going to buy this company's bear spray, then this practice canister is a must. I only gave it four stars because it only lasts about 5 seconds, and I felt it should last longer or include a second practice canister for the price.

Good tool to train with and understand how the spray comes out
This has been useful in training to draw from the holster, disengage the orange safety, and to understand the experience of how the spray will come out and feel. When I spray with one hand, there's a little kick because of the pressure of the propellant coming out. The spray does reach out far as a fog-like barrier is temporarily created. A unique, non-irritant, smell is noticed as the liquid is dispersed. With this experience, I've learned to aim lower and to have a firm grip when spraying or to use both hands to steady the canister to form a proper fog barrier. Also, since there's a unique non-irritant smell that comes out, I've learned that the fog can dissipate even in an environment where there's little to no wind and have taken that into consideration. The build quality is essentially the same as their bear spray with the active ingredient. When spraying, there's no leaks or drip that comes out from the nozzle. It's a handy tool to train with to understand how to properly utilize in an emergency situation and knowing how the spray will come out.

Essential Training Aid
The media could not be loaded. In late spring, I hiked in the Bitterroots of Idaho. I was the first one on the trails and it was prime bear season. Some places on the trail made the hair in the back of my neck standup, and I thought to myself it sure would have been nice to have practiced with the bear spray. But who wants to shoot off a perfectly good canister of bear spray just to practice? So, when I saw this training aid I gave it a shot. It was super easy to use and I am glad I practiced. The most important thing I learned was that there is not very much product in the canister. The YouTube video I watched said to spray it for 3 seconds to create a barrier. I do not recommend that because there is only 4 seconds of product in the 225g canister. If the bear does not stop, you have 1 second of spray remaining. I think a short blast may be the best option followed by additional short blast if the bear keeps coming. Okay, I am not an expert, you should watch some videos and practice if you hike in bear country. If you practice, you will be surprised with how fast the canister empties. There is no substitute for experience and for the few dollars you will spend on this training aid, it was well worth the money.

Safe Practice: Bear Spray Training Unit
The UDAP Griz Guard training unit is designed to simulate a real bear spray canister, but it does not contain the pepper ingredient, making it safe for practice. It is the same size and weight as an actual bear spray canister, which is ideal for realistic training scenarios. However, the spray mechanism can be somewhat stiff at first, which may slow your reaction during a real emergency situation. While it is a useful tool, it requires some practice to operate smoothly.

Great Training Trool
The UDAP/Griz Inert Practice Canister is a great personal defense training tool. It’s a 7.9 ounce spray canister that doesn’t contain any active capsicum ingredients or tearing agents. The canister is made extremely well with high quality materials. It’s specifically designed for training on how to safely use a “live” can of pepper spray. And, like a real canister, it emits a powerful stream towards a would-be attacking animal or assailant. It fits well in the hand and can be carried in a small pack. I like this product because it provideds a safe method to practice using an active can of pepper spray.
