Excellent quality travel watercolor palette
Schmincke makes excellent quality watercolor paints, in this case, in the form of half-pans.The paints are very clean and highly pigmented color. Artist grade. The metal, enameled palette with the flask is very convenient for impromptu painting while out and about. The flask and water brush container which holds water and sits on the side of the palette makes this extra-convenient.Accompany this with a travel watercolor brush, and paper, and you have a perfect little paint studio on the go.The palette is made with a strong weight of metal, which will last many, many years, properly cared for.It has white enameled interior which makes for a perfect mixing surface. It fits so compactly in the hand, and yet holds up to 12 half-pans of paint. The water in the flask gives two fills in the brush cleaning container that sits on the side of the palette. This set comes with eight half-pans. But you can add four more. I have empty half pans that I will fill from my tube paints.I have other travel palettes, but this particular design is my very favorite. It is a little treasure.Worth every penny of the purchase price.Get yourself a good quality travel brush and good quality watercolor paper to pair with this good quality palette. If you have this palette with a travel brush from DaVinci brushes, also made in Germany, you have a fabulous little pocket studio of excellent quality. You won't find a better quality pocket setup.Treat yourself to this little travel palette if you like quality and well-made art tools.I like to keep one in my vest pocket with travel brush and little watercolor ATC blank cards, and a pencil, a fountain pen, and a kneaded erasure.Perfect little studio on the go. Be prepared for that moment of inspiration. I also like to give impromptu gifts of little watercolor paintings to use as bookmarks.I have various palettes which I have different colors in for different possibilities. This one I thought I'd just have eight pans for starters.I have filled 7 of my own half-pans with other Schmincke and Daniel Smith paints. One great thing about these types of palettes is that you can change pans of color whenever you like.I like to have different moods of color available to just pack and go with, so I have numerous palettes. But one suffices because the half-pans come out and go back in easily. If you want one treasure watercolor travel palette, this is a little treasure.I like painting little ATC cards on the go, and especially love putting a smile on a person's face when they see me painting and I give it to them as a little surprise present. One other treasure I have is a vest with many pockets.I can keep many supplies in the vest, pens, pencils, little papers, and a travel palette or two.I use a cigar box in the car and paint when I am a passenger on a long drive. So many possibilities for fun! :)))While the price is in the low $70.00, it's a good deal.Unless you have a real fine art supply store nearby, you likely will not see these in the art stores. But even if you do find them in a store, you will pay much more.Take advantage of the low prices while you can. These are getting harder and harder to find.

I love it and would even consider buying another
What can I say? This was a great way to be introduced to the Schmincke watercolor line! The palette, which was crafted in Italy, cost at least $80 without any paints at all. Therefore, for me, it was as if I received 8 half pans Schmincke watercolors for free! I've yet to fill it with water; but I have used the paints and the palette to mix the colors. I thought that it was a lovely entry point price wise, quality wise, and beauty and purity of the chosen colors. Schmincke watercolors are clean, exquisite, and delicate. You would be surprised at all of the color combinations that can be coaxed out of the 8 pans. I've used this palette and paints quite frequently, and have also added an additional two palettes and 22 more Schmincke colors to my collection.

Perfect Limited Palette Box
Despite the many reviews remarking on the defective enamel, I must’ve lucked-out as the product I received was flawless inside & out.I’m equally impressed with the quality of Schmincke paints, although I immediately purchased several other colours to better fit my preferred palette. The Whiskey Painters #6 travel brush I ordered at the same time turned out to be a perfect fit as well as an awesome brush (see my review on that product page for more).Overall, I’m very pleased with my new bijoux box. It fits perfectly in my hand whilst painting— its weight allowing it to settle in quite comfortably and securely in my palm.It may be considered a bit pricey, but when one considers the identical empty box sells for 35% more, this Schmincke kit reveals itself to be a true bargain. Why buy a flimsy plastic travel box, when you can choose this collectible gem that can serve you well for a lifetime. Thanks for reading,- CC, Amazon Prime Member-Reviewer

It came with rust around the inside of the rim
I love that it was compact and the paints are beautiful but the lid when putting back on was lopsided but my biggest upset was the inner lining of the lid already had a light brown rust forming which was huge disappointment

Love this pocket palette!
I absolutely love this pocket palette! Beautiful, functional, well built, perfect! The color selection makes a beautiful array of mixes for plein aire painting. Highest quality paints and very compact, just right for travel.

The BEST paints in the world in a horrible metal box
This is after purchasing this Schmincke Horadam in 2013 and actually using it for an entire decade. The paints last a loooong time, a little goes a long way but that's the story behind Schmicke pure pigments. The only reason why I'm giving this a three star is because of the metal box.The metal box AFTER A DECADE, doesn't last well, it got very very rusty to the point that I had to stop using the metal jewel box and reuse a different palette receptacle for the paints.

This is the one you want!!!
OMG! What a deal! Schmincke paints are the absolute best watercolor paints out there. Made in Germany they are typically very expensive here in the US but this travel set is the perfect entry into this brand. The color selection is perfect for urban, landscape, and floral painting. The palette is sturdy and about the size of a deck of cards with maybe 1/4 thicker. Its size is very convenient and I find myself grabbing it instead of my bigger watercolor palette just because the smaller size is easier while taking up less real estate on my drawing table. There is a similar travel palette that has generic paints for $5 less. Spend the extra $5 for the Schmincke paints, the difference in the paint quality will be day and night. I would highly recommend this palette for studio and en plein air. If you're considering buying a travel palette......this is the one you want.
