Best yoga book ever
This book has everything. Kid friendly, culturally and historically educational, even has vegetarian recipes in the back! There's benefits written for every pose and photos of how Not to do the poses so you know if you're doing it wrong. Has adaptations for those who need it and more advanced for those who want that as well. I was given one of these books as a gift as a child and 25 years later had to buy it again for myself and family. My 4 year old and my husband love this book and I'm beyond grateful to find it here for a great priceand in great condition. Couldn't be more grateful and satisfied with this purchase! Will buy again for gifts in the future! Would make a great textbook for anyone new to yoga or those who just want to learn more!

A BEAUTIFUL AND COMPREHENSIVE REFERENCE BOOK!
I own tons of yoga books and this is one of my favorites. The book begins with an introduction to yoga's historical roots, the concept of our three bodies and the path to inner peace. This is followed by 27 detailed asanas and a final relaxation. Every piece of information one would wonder about the pose is included; physical, mental and energetic benefits are detailed, as well as do's and don'ts. Each asana is accompanied by beautiful, detailed photographs and a section of common faults in pose performance.Separate sections are included regarding Pranic benefits of yogic breathing, relaxation, vegetarian diet (with fabulous recipes) and meditation. The oversized, soft back format, along with two sturdy inside cover flaps for quick bookmarking, make this book comfortable to read and handle. One of the very best all-round yoga books I have studied!

Great for beginners, and a bit beyond
This book is easily the best beginning book on yoga I've ever seen. One of the difficulties of finding a good yoga book is that there are so many levels of difficulty at which yoga can be practiced - how do you get one at exactly your level? Plus, you will find some positions easier than others, and be at different levels on different types of positions. And, besides, if a book's good enough to get you to practice a position the right way, then you quickly improve to the point that you need something more. The appeal of this book is that it can span several levels. It explains things thoroughly, and starts with positionsthat are simple enough for beginners. But it also gives several more advanced variations on each position. This lets you take each position according to your present ability, and gives you somewhere to go as you get better.

A fully illustrated book of Yoga for those who are seeking to study it in a complete lifestyle change activity.
Many years ago I used to practice a little yoga but I never studied it seriously; however, in my advanced age with my limited physical skills for medical reasons and just natural aging, I decided to add some yoga exercises to my regular workout routine. I ordered several different volumes of Yoga to determine which exercises I could do and ones I could not for various reasons. This is 168 page hardcover book one of the (Yoga Mind and Body from the Sivananda Yoga Center) volumes I purchased. This is a beautifully illustrated with full color photographs and covers an enormous about of material. Unfortunately, this book has numerous advanced postures and is obviously not for beginners or those with age related problems like arthritis and restricted flexibility in the joints. This is not to imply this book does not have valuable information on Yoga; on the contrary, this text is loaded with practical lessons on the entire field of Yoga. Some of the areas covered in this 11 by 81/2 fully illustrated book include the following: What is Yoga? What is proper exercise? Preparatory exercises, the Sun Salutation, the headstand, the Scorpion, the shoulder stand, the plow, the bridge, the fish, the Lotus, the Cobra, the Locust, the Bow, advanced balances, Yoga breathing exercises, proper relaxation, the vegetarian diet, positive thinking and meditation and numerous other exercises and tips.As I have often mentioned in other reviews, in order to get the most out of any type of exercise books the best combination is to learn from an instructor and use the book as a reference guide to improve your understanding of the topic,. This includes this book. It is a serious guide to Yoga for those who are completely into the Yoga lifestyle.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Perfect, Just Perfect
I purchased this book because I had borrowed the exact same copy from the library and found it difficult to part with.I was also motivated by the price at just a mere cent, yes $0.01; it was refreshing to know that a cent is still redeemable. The shipping and handling was $3.99 so my order reached a grand total of $4.00, which wasn't arguable regarding how much I desired the book.Upon arrival, the product exceeded my expectations - it was allegedly used but found not a single trace by which to confirm this.I am very content, almost infatuated with my purchase; thank you for the utmost quality.

Great for Beginners
I began my yoga journey 6 years ago and this was the book that got me started in the right direction. I'm not one for classes very often (nor do I like to pay for them) but this book, combined with some excellent Youtube instructors, allowed me to establish important foundational yoga concepts. A great reference for beginners.
