Very disappointed
Beautiful race. However after one hit on relatively soft wood, the blade took a huge chip. Hope it’s just bad heat treatment. Pretty disappointed. Hoping the company can make this right and replace my axe or give me a refund

Good and bad, product could be cheaper
Good axe, handle was shaped a little weird at the top by the head, but I re shaped mine. Shipping took a little while. Only real complaint is the grind on the blade is way to steep and not sharp enough for competition use. Would need to be re ground.

Very poor quality control
My Ochsenkoph double bit axe came with warped head. If you sight down the blade it is easy to see that the whole forging is concave. The edges of the blades are both offset in the same direction by about 3/4s of the width of the eye. This causes the axe to strike right or left of where you are aiming depending on which way you are holding it. Beautiful looking thin with good steel but that warp renders this axe total junk. Necause i am not a fan of the Itlis grind, and the axe came very dull, I had reground and sharpened it before I noticed this defect, thus I assume my option to return it is gone. From what I habe been able to find out chances of getting a good one from this company are rather slim anyway. So, I now have a $200 root chopper. BUYER BEWARE

Disappointing for the cost
I’m actually very disappointed. For the expensive price ($500) of this product, I feel the quality of the handle is very disappointing and substandard. I’m not sure if it’s a quality control issue with Ochsenkopf or a storage issue with the place I purchased it from on amazon (Smith Safety and Supply), but the handle has some cuts in it that make it not smooth at all. So much that I could get cuts and scratches in the palms of my hands when using the axe unless I sand it down or always wear gloves. I’m going to have to re-sand that whole area, just to smooth it back out. If it came this way from Ochsenkopf then that is really dissaponting. If it came that way from the entity I purchased it from then I wouldn’t buy there anymore. For a $500 axe, it should be perfect, with no imperfections, to say otherwise is BS.
