Bought this for our chi-minipin who loves being outside. Our area is heavily wooded with large raptors. This vest is high quality and study, but not bulky or uncomfortable for him! And I can't say enough about the customer service! We originally ordered an XS ( totally my fault, I did not read the size chart which is true to size measurements) it was too small. Problem is our little man had a surgery so we didn't check to see if it would fit until we were passed the return period. I reached out and they sent the correct size, with a return shipping package for the other one! That speaks volumes about this company! And the product is fantastic! Worth every penny to keep our furry kid safe!

I live in a large city with heavily wooded neighborhoods. I've seen hawks and owls in my own backyard and coyotes outside my fence. I've read many articles on whether or not a hawk or owl can pick up a 6 lb dog, but was convinced to buy these shields based on the experiences of several friends whose pets were attacked while being walked. My tiny Chi loves to explore the backyard and track the chipmunks and squirrels, but I had to stay with her constantly and have seen very large owls come within a few feet or her, before I picked her up and took her inside. Now I feel like she can wander on her own and has some protection against aggressive predators. The shields are well made. My only concern is they may get hot in the summer heat. Overall, a great product!

My dog wouldn't wear this so I sent it back. I recently said that the refund hadn't been issued, but it has. They were very good to work with, and my refund was issued in a timely manner. I wish my dog would wear these to protect him.

I have two Chihuahua's that were both attacked at night by an Owl recently. How the little one Is still with us it a miracle to say the least. But these are now their Pajamas to sleep in at night (they have access to indoor and outdoor at their leisure with a Doggie Door and an inside pen). When we first opened them, we expected them to be somewhat softer and cooler, but they are hard shells, and there are two straps to secure them In place. I liked that they also provided a small add-on to the tail for the longer animal, to cover where the Owl tried to pick up the smaller one. The dog's don't seem to mind, and have grown accustomed to wearing them at night (although Why is always a good discussion, to which I always answer "To show off your inner Uber Chihuahua". Make no mistake, these two dogs were seriously damaged by the owl, huge puncture wounds in their skin, how it didn't hit a lung is beyond me. I was shocked at how fragile dogs are with their lungs so close to their outer fur (at the vet looking at xray's etc). This device, without a doubt, will ensure they are never that close to death again, ever. I had to update this review to say they were attacked and injured BEFORE I purchased these, they have been protected very well since then.It has the texture of that Foam board you get at the Craft Store, but much more solidly built. Very light, and they haven't managed to wiggle out of them yet (the smaller one occasionally get's one of his front paws ahead of the neck strap. I have no doubt that it gives my dogs a fighting chance that they didn't have. Again, you will be shocked at the damage a predatory bird will do to a dog. Take my word for it, this is required if you have large birds in your neighborhood.

Pretty expensive but worth it for the piece of mind. I have two small dogs about 7 lbs each. Never worried before but one day a very large hawk swooped down and snatched a good size pigeon right outside our living room window.My Yorkie doesn’t mind the shield but my Chihuahua hates it. We are working on getting her accustomed to it. It goes on easy as well as removes easy. The length from neck to tail is adjustable which is nice. Velcro secures well. Seems like based on the material and workmanship it will work.

I paid HOW much for something my dogs won’t wear & their sides are totally exposed for a nice grip!!!? And like a dummy… I bought the collar around the neck. It doesn’t even fit with the jacket. This is by far one of the dumbest purchases I’ve ever made. I panicked because I saw a hawk.

I’ve just recently moved to an area with a number of hawks flying above. I wanted to give my chi the best chance of survival as I can’t protect her 100% of the time. She runs like lightening. I researched the different protectors and decided with Raptor Shield. With the actual shield they add a clear piece that Velcro’s on to the end of the product for longer coverage. I used it even though my dog isn’t long. I feel the main part of the shield is good. I think a half an inch more on the sides would be better protection. My research showed the dogs lungs get pierced if grabbed. I would be giving it another star if the 1/2 inch was added. Now what bothers me. In my opinion the neck is not protected at all. It’s a vinyl fabric piece that as soon as my dog moves it flips back. Since the neck is a common place for birds of prey use I was not happy. As you can see I modified the neck piece with a rubber strip that isn’t beautiful but will protect my dog. The customer service is very good. I recommend the product but I hope in the future they redo the neck and add a little to the side. Honestly, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one again with those mods.

I have three Chihuahuas that I worry about going out in the evening because our house backs up to a forest preserve. I purchased three of the raptor shields and I couldn’t be happier. It gives me great peace of mind for their safety. At first, they did not like to wear it, but put it on for a while and then get used to it then there’s no problem. Highly recommend it.
