Great value, beautiful workaday display
I'll add my voice to the mix singing this display's praises. This review will be short and not techincal like some of the other excellent examinations here, and I may respond to some other comments without prior explanation. This display is a sweet spot for casual to power computer users. I can't speak to gaming and if I'm going to watch the TV I'll watch the 55" not a computer, so whatever a computer display displays for the occasional video or episode is fine. For me the U2415 replaces an old Apple Cinema 23 HD display. For both I've used my Retina MacBook's HDMI port because my 2 Thunderbolt ports are in use with adapters. If you use HDMI be sure to change your sound settings to direct sound out back to your computer's headphone (speaker system) port since the computer defaults, when sensing HDMI, to sending sound out via HDMI. You'll need to buy a 6' HDMI cable separately (and I don't know if it's possible to adapt display port or mini-display port to Thunderbolt so do that research if you need to). Note: if you're a Mac person unfamiliar with a potpourri of monitor ports and planning to use the supplied Display Port to Mini-display port (like for my wife's Mini), take care to use the correct port; this display can daisy chain and has two display port ports, one each in and out.I love the ultra-minimal bezel. Having the option to rotate 90º/vertical could be useful occasionally for this graying graphic designer making his own author "onesheets" or other layout tasks, but it requires changing system display prefs BEFORE rotating to avoid eye-hand-mouse-brain damage. The OCD's touch buttons are no big problem that some folks say. Even in the dark. You won't use the OCD much and it's no big deal to glide or poke around a few presses and you've found a button to launch the OCD.I too like how the silver plastic matches my laptop's aluminum. I wish the Dell's base was flat; it's actually very slightly beveled on each side, making it impractical to store much if anything on that expansive base. The stand is attractive, easy to deal with, and I adapted a second U2415 for my wife's Mac Mini to an old articulating HP stand that I fashioned my own 100mm VESA mounting plate for—so she can get her Dell's bottom edge right down to her desktop (Dell's stand leaves several inches' gap). It's a visually solid, crisp, colorful, bright display. Color-wise, my only wish would be the ability to calibrate it to match my Retina's screen. I'm not a color guy but it seems like the Retina has a bit more red. This is no big deal but, if it were to be able to goose the tone—without screwing up the whiteness used for text files, I'd do it. Probably requires a pro-grade calibration tool. It's not possible, and it would be sensible, to change from this displays nice tall 16:10 ratio to gaming's 16:9 via Dell's own settings. However, if on the Mac you could try using the inexpensive app Display Menu, which DOES offer 1920x1080 (16:9).If I could I'd give this 4.5 stars but gave it 5 because I think 4 is too few.

Fantastic external monitor to use with a macbook pro
After reading several reviews regarding how this monitor functions, integrates with a macbook pro, and the clarity, settings, and set up of this monitor, I believe that it would be valuable to describe my experience:1) my set up: Macbook pro 13 inch retina 2015. I bought the Dell Ultrasharp to replace a 24 inch Apple Cinema display that I was using at work. This monitor was approx 5 years old and the mother board fried. My home external monitor is a 27 inch Apple thunderbolt display, the so called " best external monitor" to use with an apple laptop. I connect my macbook pro to the Dell via HDMI2) The Dell is absolutely plug and play; I set the input on the Dell to HDMI once at initial set up, and every time I turn on my mac, the monitor is connected and ready to go. Some reviewers noted that every time you turn on the Dell monitor, you have to set the input you want to use; this is not true3) Quality of the image: The Dell ultrasharp monitor image quality related to video/pictures/photos/games is nearly identical in quality to the Apple thunderbolt display, which costs essentially 4 x what I paid for the Dell. When working with text, I must admit that the Dell image was a little less clear than the Apple display, however, after tweaking the sharpness/contrast, it was very close to the Apple display in clarity3) The ability to adjust the height and viewing angle of the Dell far exceeds what I can achieve with my Apple monitor. This is great for when I want to stand up and work at my desk4) In summary, easy set up, great image, the "ultrasharp" description is accurate, and the value for the dollar of this monitor is fantastic

Previously sworn off Dell products but this one is one worth buying
I searched for a very long time for a new monitor and I read many, many reviews before settling with this one (I even put a different monitor in my shopping cart at one time). I will say that I am very, very glad that I purchased this one. I was very nervous purchasing this monitor because I've had 2 dell laptops die on me previously in less than a year of purchase, so I had sworn off dell products. We'll see how long this monitor lasts, but in the meantime-here is what I like and don't like about the product:For starters, it was incredibly well packaged and arrived intact. I have a macbook pro with retina display and it connected beautifully with a Type A HDMI (regular one-not the mini or micro HDMI). In the options for adjusting your colors, it has a mac option or a PC option-this was great, as the colors were a bit enhanced when I switched to mac colors. Also, it has an option for gaming as well-so the screen changes to much brighter and colors are a bit different when you choose gaming colors. I do play Lara Croft: Tomb Raider with my PC and I was very happy with the sharpness and colors of the game (I am no real gamer, I just like to play once in a while-a gaming connoisseur will probably have a true list of pro's and cons). The resolution is very clear. I have an Acer at work and this DELL at home-my Acer monitor looks incredibly blurry (comparing monitor to monitor) to me now that I go to work. It is no retina display, but the images are very crisp, clear, and focused. The assembly was incredibly easy-basically one step: attach the stand to the back of the monitor, until it clicks in place and you're done. The only complaint that I have about this monitor is all the hook-ups (HDMI, VGA, sound, etc.) is deeply buried. I had to lay the monitor, face down on a flat surface to be able to hook up my HDMI. Multiple attempts to push it in with the monitor upright was not working bc the port is buried. Also, when you connect the cord for sound (ie: external speakers), you cannot put the aesthetic back plastic piece on the monitor that covers the ports.I hope to use this monitor for a long time!
