Electronic remote switches with a battery are a dime a dozen. This one is really clever because the click of the switch generates a tiny pulse of electricity that sends the wireless signal to the plug-in receiver to turn the remote device on or off. I just pulled it out of the box, plugged a lamp into it, walked around clicking the remote switch, and it works perfectly, even from more than 50 feet away. For times when you are at the receiving end, there is also an on-off switch there. In the U.S., the remote switch should be mounted so the "on" click is at the top.Update: After five years, all my switches continue to work great. As reviewer “Mac Coder” says, sometimes (but rarely) you click it and nothing happens. Also, after a power outage, it will come back on in the “off” mode. And, sometimes it’s nice to have the clicker loose, so you can take it from its normal home to another place in the room.For all these reasons, I don’t recommend mounting it with the foam tape that comes with it. For wall mounting, you can use two small nails 2-5/16 inches apart, and then easily flip it over when needed. Used this way, it’s a five-star device. This switch is GREAT! It's dark when I enter my apartment at night, and there's no switch near the door. So we have to walk through the dark to turn on a lamp. Not anymore! I plugged the module into one of my lamps. I slapped the switch on the wall with the tape. And it just worked! I'm a gadget geek, so I was a little disappointed that I didn't have to do anything to get it to work; that's no fun (sarcasm). It works 100% of the time! We use it like it's always been there.

Works great. I would have preferred for the switch to be of a better quality as it sounds very plastic when you use it, but it works!

First, this remote switch set is AWESOME & works so well, and never needs batteries and the range is amazing - I use several of them in different rooms & I can take the remote outside & to the edge of the back yard & it still works!The one star rating to hopefully get peoples attention about the one MAJOR flaw.The receiver plug blocks the second outlet outlet underneath it to the point where you can barely plug in the smallest, thinnest un-ground plug in the other outlet. So you're outta luck if you want to use the other plug with a grounded or regular size plug.The overall Receiver plug isn't that big & seems very well made - I don't see how the could overlook something like this? one plug that blocks both outlets... come on man!

I am handicapped and needed a light switch easily accesabel from my chair. I was so disappointed in the first battery operated item I tried; often had to click it up to 50 times to get a response. So, that went into the round file and I ordered this one which came promptly. It installed so easily I was able to do it myself from my chair! I stuck the switch to the inside face of a drawer in the night stand beside my chair, so it takes up no room and I can reach it easily. And best of all, it works every time with ONE click! I highly recommend.

This is the second one that I have purchased for my house. Very happy with this remote outlet control. Perfect for places where accessing the switch on a lamp is not convenient.

Before these wonderful switches we used a tiny remote control trying to turn our laundry room lights off and on. The ceiling fan always seemed to block the signal requiring continuous arm motions to allow the signal to reach the unit. Now with these babies it really is as simple as flicking a normal wall switch. Plus never having to have a battery die or need changing is literally amazing. If they make a waterproof version they will replace the battery operated doorbells.

if you are in a service industry battery operation will always be a failure at some point. Reliability is key. The large switch is a good modern design, but I want to see the plug-in adapter smaller and configured so I can put 2 on an outlet.
