UPDATE: ALL of the strawberry plants I recently purchased died. I would not recommend Hand Picked Nursery any longer. I’ve purchased numerous plants from them in the past. As another customer stated the seller made it out to be our fault for the failure and not the poor quality plants they sent. If I can’t find them locally then I won’t buy them at all if they are the only vendor.We’ve purchased 3 sets of these strawberry plants. The first two sets were great! I purchased them in the spring of 2023. We enjoyed them so much we wanted to add more to our current beds. So I purchased a third set in October 2023. We live in Texas so we’ve got a longer growing season than most and the plants have plenty of time to grow a good root system prior to our short winter. The first two sets thrived and produced a lot of berries. We also have two different varieties of strawberries besides these and they don’t compare to the sweetness of these berries. Unfortunately the third set I purchased this month did not do well at all. The roots arrived much shorter than the first two sets and from the beginning seemed to struggle and are still struggling. 10 plants died within two-three days and sadly more have since wilted, and appear to be dying, even though the mature plants around them are doing very well. They were planted just like the first two sets in the same bed. I contacted the seller and they are willing to send us more to replace the plants that died almost immediately after they began growing. They only asked us to pay for the shipping. But with so many dying, even further, after my initial contact with them we’ve decided not to purchase more roots at this time. We’re somewhat concerned that we’ll have a repeat and it’s not worth putting out another $30 for another failure.

Shipping took 2 weeks, i was too nervous while waiting that i thought they would die but when i get them they were all started sprout, there was 22, i lost 3 of them all my mistake tho, others all healthy and doing great.. i planted some of them ground some of them in pot, out here Hawaii these days warm but raining almost everyday i hope they can survive due the wet soil, i am so excited to have organic heirloom strawberry on my garden, thank you very much..

These poor plants. They went thru soooooo many hardships & less than required conditions, but they didn’t give up. I gave up. My husband didn’t want them in the house & I didn’t have a grow lamp anyway ( could have gotten one tho). I didn’t find out til after I got them that I would need to grow them inside. They sat in our metal mailbox from 11am til 9:30 pm in 98-99 degree heat in a wide open spot w/ in FULL sun, the day they arrived. Then, I couldn’t pot them for 3 days because I didn’t receive my strawberry potting soil in time, so I added a littler water every day to their roots (carefully not getting the crowns wet) in their mail pkg. (they seemed to like it) & their poor saga went on & on. They rallied, they fought, they had good wins, then bad situations. They made it til 2 days ago when I finally planted them in the ground even tho they didn’t have 4 leafs & they promptly died. It was pitiful. So, my message is that they are strong & hardy roots & they are worth buying if you can give them the correct conditions they need to flourish. They had all bad odds against them, but they held in there for quite awhile (2 mths.?). They aren’t difficult to grow, I just couldn’t provide the simple conditions they needed. I highly recommend them. I might try again next yr., but I will be fully prepared first. My thanks to the growers & my apologies for not doing them justice!

Excellent plants! They arrived quickly and were loosely but carefully pack and arrived moist. I received 22 plants and all but one are thriving. They are almost ready to move outside. I'm so happy to have found this farm as it's difficult to find heirloom organic strawberry starts. We will have delicious strawberries for years to come!

Roots were delivered promptly in great condition with most already greening up. A few days later I have thriving plants. I won’t hesitate to purchase from this company again.They replaced ones I purchased in Walmart that were small, weak, and never responded that were packed in dark green bags that I couldn’t see before purchase. No more Walmart crap for me.
