Hang it on the outside of a cup with the two prongs on the inside of the cup. When the liquid rises and makes contact with both of the contacts, it sets off a loud beep. Works very well for my legally blind father.

It’s a liquid level sensor. While it would work in any liquid YOU NEED TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS SAFE TO WORK IN GAS. See what the manefacture recommends before using it in any type of flammable environment
