Step one of molecular gastronomy spherification.
If you use this for molecular gastronomy, it will last a long time. If you are making mock caviar or grape size spheres, this is the gelling agent. You mix your liquid or puree with 0.5g of powder per 100g of that main ingredient. Ideally you would use a stick blender to make sure it is completely absorbed. Let the bubbles settled and you are ready from the next stage ... calcium lactate bath. There are plenty of helpful videos on YouTube which will take you through the process and maybe inspire you to go further in your journey with molecular gastronomy.

sodium algenate powder
This sodium alginate powder is just as expected and I’m very pleased with the results I’ve been getting. I use it as a thickening agent with dyes for textile painting and it is performing exactly the same a more expensive brand I have been using previously. I also see that it can be used in food as a thickening agent so I’m planing on experimenting with it for making home made ice-cream.The powder was well packaged with a long use by date and product information on the carton.

Good stuff
I must admit I wouldn't know what to do with this ingredient but my partner seems to enjoy turning the kitchen into a lab and surprise me with foods I'd never have considered. She tells me that Sodium Alginate powder is used to create fancy edible gel and foams. It also improves the body and texture of ice creams and baked goods. Two of our closest friends are on a gluten free diet and when we organize dinner parties we prefer to keep everything gluten free for their safety. She's happy about this product having tried one ice cream recipe that turned out well and will be used for our next get together. Recommended.

Good container.
the food grade alginate is delivered in an informative box and a good practical container with a distribution style lid with a pour option.I use this for adding gluten free thickening to small culinary projects. You can also use it when mixed with a few drops of preservative as an alternative gum for polishing the edges of leather items. Which I have.Free flowing fine powder.the price point (£8.99 at the time of review) is about right for this quantity especially given the useful container rather than just a generic pouch.

Great for Making Fruit Caviar
Good quality with an expiration of about 2 years from the purchase date. This is the perfect stuff to make fruit caviar with. Sodium alginate powder is normally made from seaweed, so it is vegan-friendly too.
