not the right size
not 1/4", maybe a metric equivalent. I bought these in anticipation of running out of my 1/4" dowels. I was gluing together a number of boards, when I had to use these they rattled in the hole.

Some dowel outside diameter are too small or inconsistent for a tight fitting joint
Pros: Good value, comes with a nice translucent case to organize the 3 sizes of dowels.Cons: I needed to use the 1/4" dowels for a project. Unfortunately, these 1/4" dowels were too small & the joints were too loose fitting, so could not use them. Maybe a bad batch ?The 1/4 inch dowels all were 0.004" of an inch smaller ( 0.246" instead of 0.250" measured outside diameter using a Starrett Venier Caliber ).Measured some of the 5/16" & 3/8" dowels:5/16" ( 0.3125") dowels = 0.312" to 0.314" .3/8" ( 0.375") dowels = 0.372" to 0.375".I bought some fluted 1/4" oak dowels from Lowe's (Madison Mill, US ) 0.252" to 0.254" OD which made for a very tight fitting joint, even without using any glue.
