Q: Has the formula changed along with the new packaging? My cat that has been on this food for a long time suddenly has developed urinary issues.

I am unsure on the answer to this question, as our cat has only been on this one (very successfully and recommended by our vet for our elderly kitty) for less than 6 months. I believe I would contact the company with your question.

Q: Is it normal for the food to smell like rancid walnut oil? I just purchased my first bag and I remember that the 33 smelled a little like pumpkin.

I don't know what rancid walnut oil smells like so I can't tell you about that. The cat food does not smell very good to me, nothing like pumpkin, but my cat loves it and has been on royal canin dry foods for most of his nine years.

Q: Why is corn the number one ingredient? What nutritional value does corn have for cats?

I cannot speak to why they choose these ingredients. But, you can call their 800 number on the bag & a real person answers. What I can tell you is that a Vet recommended Royal Canin 16 yrs ago and I’ve always fed my kids this food. They have always maintained their weight, health, and vitality.

Royal Canin has their own website which will have the info you are looking for. You may need a hypoallergenic version and they have several offerings. Hypoallergenic items, just like if you buy it at a vet, runs $75-$90 for a 6-8 lb bag. Tip given to me by my two different Burmese breeders: never buy any pet food you can get in a grocery store or a mass merchandiser (like Walmart, Target, Costco) as they are not federally regulated and almost always have by products and even diseased animals included in their contents (but are not required to reveal on the labels).
