There is an opening at the bottom right of the frame if installed properly. I believe that opening is to access the sensor for lighting change. I do agree with you that there is no front facing opening that could recognize motion when entering a room with the frame.

Q: I'm having problems clicking the bottom part of the frame onto the tv. I don't want to press too hard and damage the tv. How hard do i press?
