Watched on Viki App
Overall, I'd say the talent was there, the idea was there - they just didn't quite drive it home. Personally, I feel the writing could have been a bit better - the villains had way too much screen time and there were a few loose ends. The action was great. The cast really outdid themselves and must have trained hard to give us such grand fight scenes.I expected this drama to be darker and more violent than any previous k-drama I'd watched. It was, yes, but not to the degree that I expected. Certainly not for kids but I don't think Captain America 3 was any lighter than this series. There were a lot of f-bombs dropped, but I love the Viki subtitle team (they rock!). They always "***" it out, which I appreciate.Ji Chang Wook is such a fantastic actor - he and Yoona are the reason I watched this. I absolutely adored their scenes together but wish there had been more. I have read some negative reviews about Yoona's acting but I totally disagree witht them. I've seen at least 4 of her dramas and I love what she brings to each character. This was no easy role to portray and she brought 100% effort to the table and creamed it. She left this viewer convinced of the character's dilemna and carring what happened to her.Without containing spoilers, I'd have to say this drama has a very different vibe, in that there weren't multiple characters to root for. There was Ji Chang Wook (K2) and.... no one. Villains were everywhere, and you know how female villains go: your worst nightmare. Choi Yoo-Jin (played by Song Yoon-A and not to be confused with young Yoona) was such a despicable character I started skipping long conversations with her because enough was enough. Good gracious. What a sickening character. I would have been happy to see any other horrible villain win a round just to see the smile vanish from that woman's face. Eventually, due to decisions made by the invididuals, I was able to root for other characters as well and I thought the writers did a good job of bringing me to that moment without my even realizing it. Does that make sense? It's like, I didn't care a hoot for a dozen members of the supporting cast and then before I knew it, a series of events brought me to a climax where I was both impressed by them and glad for their screen time. I've trying to be vague so as to avoid spoilers.I gues I'll end this review with the same word I started with: Overall, if you don't mind more negative content than most kdramas contain (language, violence/blood, sensuality, general evil-ness), I think you'll enjoy Ji Chang Wook and Yoona's respective journies and an epic climax with some REALLY unexpected turns and surprises.
