Q: It says something about blue crystals, my batch does not have blue crystals. Also, when baking, is it ok to bake in oven that you eat your food from?

The blue crystals indicate "freshness" of the silica, if you have none is your "batch from silica "sand"? Or gel "beads"? There was nothing stated in instructions about NOT using your oven or microwave....but I didn't want to use the same microwave that we have in our kitchen. And my silica gel beads are now "pink" from several uses, which indicates I need to "refresh" them by drying them out.

Q: How much do I need for a smaller bouquet?

If you want to dry flowers. Put a lot on the bottom, then just some into the flowers. When they are dry you can put it all back into the bag, you can reuse it.

Q: I received a lei for graduation made of orchid petals. Do you think this would work for this type of flower also?

Yes, it will. It's my preferred method of drying orchids. If there is a fleshy column in the centre of the plant, I sometimes remove this to help the flower dry more evenly. Don't worry, the orchid still looks like an orchid. Just place a layer of silica sand in the bottom of your drying container, place the orchid on top and spoon the silica gently around and under the petals to support them in their natural shape. Cover the whole flower and leave it for the recommended amount of time on the leaflet included in the package. If you're impatient, you can dry it in the microwave for 30 second bursts at 50% power until it's done. They can be a little brittle so be gentle with them.

Q: Can i use a glass container? The instructions say plastic or metal but doesn't specify about glass.

I wouldn’t use glass because glass doesn’t absorb like plastic does. Even though it’s non toxic plastic container needs to be thrown out.
