I've been searching for over 3 months for a mini travel American Mahjong set for an upcoming trip. It's been hard trying to narrow down which one to get based on reviews, weight, portability, etc. Fortunately, this one went on sale on Prime Day so I wasted no time ordering it because it seemed like one of the nicer sets. I'm so glad I did and I even splurged for the special edition. The set is so cute and I love that everything fits into a zipper pouch instead of having to lay the tiles back into a box every time after playing. This looks like a quality set that will last for years. My only disappointment was that I was hoping the wooden racks would be tilted so you could easily see the tiles during play, but they're not. The tile will basically be sitting straight up and down like in the plastic racks. But I thought of an idea to add a slight tilt. I'm going to put small bumper pads on the bottom near the front to raise the front of the "shelf" that the tiles sit on just enough for a slight tilt. I may use the plastic racks as pushers. I may also purchase a table pad. Other than that I love the set and am happy to have it!

This was cute, but the tiles were too small. I have played with another travel set in which the tiles were thin and didn’t loose size of tile. That’s what I was hoping for. They are hard to read, the quality and color are good though. It was too much money to be unhappy, so it was returned.

It's well made. Just the right size for travel. All pieces are included. This is not a toy but a real MJ set.

Mahjong is a *complex* game and this little set serves its purpose as a portable learning aid for Chinese and Japanese play perfectly. First, the basics. Tiles, wood racks, plastic racks, dice, an instruction pamphlet, and zippered storage pouch came in the box. The packaging is visually stunning and secure; the tiles are very small, but remain easily readable and pretty easy to handle; the wood racks are a nice upgrade; and the pouch easily stores the whole set. One star off because one of the plastic racks had some warping from heat damage during production (aesthetic only, perfectly usable), one tile had some black paint on the corner (easily removed with regular nail polish), and the dice are featherweight. Overall, very satisfied and very proud that this set preserves traditional Chinese designs/marks/characters.

Seriously, I absolutely LOVE this American style travel set! The quality of this set is excellent! So much fun and easy to travel with; fits perfectly in my carryon. Would DEFINITELY purchase again! Makes a great gift for your mahjong loving friend or family member.
