Panasonic internal SATA Blu-ray Disc Writer BD-MLT UJ272 S (with cover black), ultra slim, 8,9 mm high

Functional but getting creaky and with warnings of expiring support for Windows 8.1 I decided that my 9 year Dell was due replacement. With increased streaming, offline storage and cheap and available external drives few are now available with optical drives many of us old-timers have DVD collections and rely on discs for archiving. My favoured replacement was, again, a Dell, unavailable with an optical drive but offered a spare drive bay for after-market installation.I thought a Blu-ray drive with increased capacity would be a suitable upgrade alongside my new speedy PC but, again, thin on the ground. I ordered the Panasonic internal SATA Blu-ray Disc Writer BD-MLT UJ272 S, with some concern that it was international shipping but it arrived safely a day earlier than anticipated.Other reviewers have raised he issue of packaging but mine arrived in a minimal but secure original cardboard box nestled inside a capacious Amazon one. There were no instructions or manual but if you need these to slot in and connect an optical drive I would suggest you shouldn’t be attempting the task yourself in the first place.The drive itself dates back to a 2016 manufacture and is fractionally smaller than a modern drive. This was not an issue for me as the fitting screws aligned with the drive on the bottom of the drive bay and the facia trim concealed the couple on mm space at the top.A word of caution: be very careful about the fixing screws that you use. They need to be very short (or packed with a few washers) to avoid fouling release of the drive tray. I suggest proceeding cautiously and test with and without discs inserted before final commissioning.

This Bluray writer is much better than the LG model that I tried before (LG BU40N). It is more expensive though. The quality of the recordings is better (almost no rings visible on the disc surface), it is less noisy and it looks better built. The laser calibration looks also more advanced, as it seems to detect when a disc has problems and does not write to it (in opposition to just writing and failing in the middle of the process).However, the packaging used to ship from Germany was awful! It was not in a rigid box fully protected, and any kind of pressure on the cardboard envelope could have destroyed the drive. Luckily it didn’t happen and the device is working as expected, but I would never know if its life was reduced due to the wrong shipping.

This replacement DVD reader/writer has BluRay functionality and it's easy to fit in your laptop. One word of warning - it's a tiny bit smaller than the DVD kit I removed from my 8 year old Acer Aspire which means it doesn't fit flush with the right hand edge of the laptop case (about 3 mm short in that direction). Also it leaves a 3 mm gap underneath the DVD drive which needs to be filled by a plastic wedge to ensure that disc ejection and closure can be performed without damaging the tray through excessive pressure.

Not a Blu-ray and cost £12.45 to return to an address abroad

Ottimo masterizzatore! Silenzioso e davvero sorprendente! 48x cd e 8x dvd e bd-r. Alloggio ACER come originale. Preferito a LG per una brutta esperienza in passato (problemi con il carrello). Davvero Consigliato.

Conforme à mon attente.Installation très facile due à sa dimension standard.Fonctionne du 1er coup… mais en lecteur DVD.En cause Windows 10 qui ne propose pas de pilote pour les lecteurs/graveurs de Blu-Ray. Triste.Hélas le constructeur n'en propose pas non plus.

Ha sostituito il mio precedente lettore dvd in maniera indolore e fa esattamente quello che promette consentendo lettura e masterizzazione di cd dvd e bluray
