Easy set-up, Great result!
The media could not be loaded. I purchased the new Reolink Argus Eco camera from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/REOLINK-Argus-Eco-Rechargeable-Solar-Powered/dp/B07N63VJ67) and received it a few days later. I have purchased Reolink cameras in the past, both for myself and family and I have made recommendations to many people based on my experiences and the expert opinion of my son, who works with CCTV cameras and video daily, and sees the good and the bad. Over the past few years I have installed enough different models that I believe that I can speak with experience and can also recognize the good from the bad. The most recent cameras I purchased before Eco were three Reolink RLC-410 5MP units. They are amazing and the best value around for a wired bullet style camera. Reolink has been consistent in development and diversity in their camera line. The Bullets, Domes, Keen, Argus, Go, and now the Argus Eco.There is a quick Start Guide in the box, an installation template and a CCTV security sticker. The instructions are clear and easily followed. The camera is powered either by a standard USB power adapter or by the Reolink solar panel (sold separately). The battery was charged when Eco came out of the box, so setup took only a few minutes. The setup procedure is like the earlier Reolink cameras and it is easier than any other brand I’ve experienced. You simply scan the QR code on the camera with your smartphone or tablet. The excellent Reolink app recognizes the camera and first pairs, then configures it in the application. It took less than 5 minutes to get this camera up and running. A big benefit as well is the internal micro SD storage card. It can hold days or even weeks of images, depending on the size of the card and the amount of activity. Images and video are easily retrieved via the app and are in a non-proprietary format, so they are viewable in any common Windows, Mac or Linux application and easily shared.Using the SD card there are no fees or security issues storing your images elsewhere... you maintain privacy and control and can access them quickly with great quality from your smart phone, tablet or computer. Reolink also offers an on-line storage service (https://cloud.reolink.com/).Included is a standard tripod mount if that is your desired choice. The Argus Eco is powered by twin Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries. When installed with the Reolink solar panel or a standard USB charger it constantly maintains a full charge. Operated solely from its batteries, Eco will operate without external power, and will do so for days, depending on the amount of activity that triggers the motion detection circuitry and recording. It will alert you if the battery drops below 10%.Just a mention of the Reolink solar panel (https://www.amazon.com/Reolink-Solar-Panel-Rechargeable-Waterproof/dp/B0798MV7NS), which can maintain a working charge on the Eco, eliminating the need for an electrical plug. To date, after a week, there has not been a significant loss of charge and the battery drained only slightly during 2 days of cloud and rain. By the way, the Argus Eco is IP65 certified waterproof. Of course, the investment in a solar panel will quickly pay for itself as it makes the camera practically maintenance free. There is a small LED under the charge port that glows red when charging and turns green when fully charged. The motion detection circuitry appears to be improved over previous models. Heavy rain and bugs could sometimes trigger my motion detector. Admittedly, I set sensitivity on high as we live in an area with wildlife, including coyotes and raccoons, that regularly come through our property. The Argus Eco specifications state that sensitivity to annoyances such as small twigs has been reduced. I have noticed fewer ‘false’ triggers and recordings with this model.I have been happy with the build and video quality of my previous Reolink cameras, which include the RLC-410 (both 4 and 5MP models, the 411 and 422, Argus and Keen. For a more versatile camera, the Argus Eco delivers great image quality and showed remarkably clear night video. It has a good field of view, enough to secure the entire front of my house. In fact, this camera is small enough that I plan to mount one unobtrusively, powered by the solar panel so it is completely wireless, inside a bird house on a tree facing my house. This way I can see, hear, and record any activity across my entire front yard because the Argus Eco has a sensitive built-in microphone. You can even use 2-way audio to speak with persons nearby.Of course, the Argus Eco can send you an email and notify you via the app that motion has been detected. You can customize your voice recorded alerts and/or sound a siren and respond immediately even when off-site.To summarize, CCTV cameras are basically available in two types. Those that merely ‘tell the story’ of what happened with images too poor to identify criminals; and those with a level of quality that are useful if you are victimized. There are dozens that ‘tell the story’. Those that are truly useful for security can be very expensive. With the Argus Eco, Reolink has produced a quality product with 1080p full HD at a fair price.Peace of mind, knowing that my property is under the watchful eye of Reolink.Pro:• Ease of setup• Well engineered design and build quality• Multiple power options (can be truly wireless)• Improved motion detection• Good night vision• Built in storage via SD cardCon:I have not found one yet.…Great product Reolink!

Almost the perfect Camera
So for $47 (sale price) I decided to give this camera a shot. After using it for several weeks I think it's almost the perfect camera.First the pros:• No cloud based subscription needed! I'm not sold on cloud based storage and wanted a camera system where my footage was at home. These cameras store to a local micro SD card (not included). There is a cloud option available and fairly priced (at this time) vs other camera systems. Included is 1 week of free cloud storage for 1 camera. I may or may not use it.• No base-station needed! I have a large house (3600 sq/ft) that is long and skinny. To get WIFI to the front and back of the house I use the Netgear Orbi system which has been fantastic! However, most of the battery powered cameras phone home to a base-station using their own WIFI network. A centrally located base-station would not work for me so I wanted a camera that could leverage my existing mesh network. This camera attaches easily to my network using 2.4GHz without problems.• Good video quality. Both day and night video qualities is very good; I have no complaints.• Fast alerts. When detecting motion I get alerts on the phone/tablet within 30 seconds if not sooner.• Fast easy setup. This was by far the easiest camera I setup. Using the app I was able to get the camera up and running in less than 30 minutes. Most of that time was just looking around the UI to see what I could change/configure. Additional cameras would take less than 5 minutes once you know the app and process.• Battery life is reasonable (at least for me). I fully charge the camera and putting it in a high traffic area was able to get 3 weeks of testing without issue. After the 3 weeks the camera still had 35% charge left so I figure I might have to charge it once a month give or take.• Ability to add a solar panel (that is also reasonably priced).• A strap type mount is included in the kit to allow you to attach the camera to a pole/tree/etc. That’s what I used during the evaluation period. It was quick and easy to setup. The few Cons:• By far my biggest issue is the mounting system. It only uses a screw-on type mount (included). Also, it’s not the standard ¼ inch camera mount so no using other types of mounts you might have lying around. The camera has an antenna on the back so depending on how you have it positioned; it might interfere with the mounting stalk. Also with you having to screw the camera on/off to re-charge the camera. I don’t want to mount them way up high vs if the mount was a magnetic mount which would be easier to get on and off. Maybe not an issue if you opt for the solar panel.• Batteries are not removable so you have to fiddle with the mount to take the camera down to recharge. Again this isn’t an issue if you’re adding the solar panel. I don’t want to draw any more attention to the cameras and a solar panel near it would be an eye-sore/dead giveaway where the cameras are located.Overall I’ve been very happy with this camera and have decided to buy two more to cover the back door and pool area of the house. If they had a magnetic mount available and or a removable battery for recharging then this would be my perfect camera system.
