good
I used it for the first time today and I think it did what it's built to do.Do not believe the 10-minute build time. It takes 10 minutes just to unpack the box... which, the packing was very good. It took me 20 minutes just to apply the silicone on the inside of the box to seal the joints (silicone was provided and is part of the steps). You'll need to leave a couple peas of silicone for where the fan attaches to the box. I would say allocate an hour for the assembly. Overall the assembly is simple and nothing went wrong for me. The parts are machined well and fit nicely.Do not believe the filter is replaceable. I couldn't find the replacement filter online so until it's offered, it's not really replaceable. I found a similar filter (looks completely different) of the same size and function A14 for about $100 online, but it doesn't have a rubber seal in the back and doesn't have an aluminum shell like the one that comes with this unit. The two plexiglass side pieces are great to have. I do have them hanging on the sides when I use the box. They will stand up by themselves, attached to the box with static cling. However, I found that I could use either a long wood-working clamp to clamp them to the box, or, what I ended up doing was using a suitcase belt which wraps around the whole box. doing this will keep the two plexigass attached to the box even when I prop up the box.For storage, I put the two plexiglass panes in front of the filter to prevent dust from touching the filter... and keep it in place with suitcase straps. I bought 4 suitcase straps for under $10 and use all 4 of the straps to help keep the plexiglass strapped on to the front of the box during storage. Also for storage, I wrapped the fan with a gallon ziplock bag to prevent dust from getting into it during storage.Moving the box is doable but it's not easy. There are no handles and it's pretty heavy and the weight is not evenly distributed due to the fan. To move it you basically have to bear-hug it with two arms.Overall, I'm pleased with the box. I'm not going to use it much but bought it because it protects time and $$ spent on the hobby.

Very well built and easy to assemble!
I had it put together and running in about 45 mins. Instructions weren't rough like other reviews hinted at but it could use some photos for general description. The flow seems very even and the quality of this hood is even better than I expected. The fan is very quite unlike the 2x4ft flow hood I used to have. Yes it is smaller than any commercial units but for hobby work it'll be plenty. I was extremely impressed with how well it was packaged for shipping. Thanks Myco labs for this awesome little unit! I'm sure it will see plenty of working hours.

It'll do!
The instructions aren't completely up to date, so I spent the first 30 minutes to an hour wondering why I couldn't find the pieces on the list and finding the instructions on the website isn't super straight forward either, but I got through it. The flow hood itself is small, but fine for a hobbyist like myself. If you're working with grain bags it's a little cramped but not impossible if you're organized. It's definitely better for agar and smaller grain jars. There's a smidgen of turbulence on the farthest of the right side of the flow hood that I couldn't work out, but overall I think it'll work out just fine and the item came in quicker than expected.

The best!
I just wanted to give you all at Bonsai and Mycolabs a huge THANK YOU for making this hobby much more enjoyable with this wonderful Flow Hood. The possibilities are endless in Mycology with the use of this amazing product. The Flow Hood is EXTREMELY well built, and portable at that. Your success rate will be beyond your expectations and no more worries and stress about contaminated cultures and agar. Simply said, it DOES NOT get any better than this when you want 100% success!

Great Laminar Flow hood
This is the perfect sized flow hood for my mycology needs. It is very well built and sturdy, but it is still lightweight enough to be easily moved around. I tested the flow with a lighter, it blows steady across the filter and did not extinguish my lighter. I have already used it to pour agar and have zero contamination. Shipping was really fast and the included user guide is detailed and helpful.

NO CONTAMINANTS!!!
If you’re in the market for true laminare flow this is hands down the best bang for the money, I CHECKED. Almost all of the competitors in this price range just blow filtered air which is a step up, but not the same. The build quality is also scarily good.I do wish that this model had a pre filter but that’s not a deal breaker. You definitely should buy a fan speed controller (~$30 I think) and save the box to use as a riser. But overall NO CONTAINMENTS SO NO COMPLAINTS HERE

what I didn't know
I purchased one of these 2 years ago, though I only used it several times. Then, a couple of months ago, I decided to become more involved in mycology. I started reading more about laminar flow hoods and found there is a simple test for the flow hood's quality. You light a Bic lighter and hold it in front of the hood's air flow. The flame should bend out 45 degrees if it is working correctly. So I tried my Bonsai. It blew the flame out. I tried with a second, then a third lighter. Each time the air flow extinguished the flame. the experts report this is a bad sign. I suppose I will now build one myself.
