The only yoga sequence you need
Surya namaskara is essentially a complete holistic yoga sequence for creating health and vitality in the body. It works on the whole endocrine system stimulating both the physical body and the subtle body through the chakras. The spine is bent backwards and forwards in a sequence of 12 postures with the rhythm of the breath ensuring a healthy flow of energy throughout the spinal column ensuring spinal health. Regular practice brings the practitioner back in line with nature's rhythms as all the main glands of the body are stimulated and brought back into full functioning capacity. Our sedentary lifestyle often means that our glands are not working efficiently. By stretching the whole of the body through this set of 12 postures a sense of wholeness and harmony is restored and the pranic (energetic) body is stimulated.The body is composed of matter and energy.Surya namaskara helps to tone the matter (the body's many interconnected systems) and stimulate the energetic systems of the body and by so doing brings a calming effect preparing mind and body for spiritual practice. It is vital that the practitioner rests completely after doing the sequence in order to integrate the benefits.There is good advice on how to start the practice and suggested modifications if the practitioner finds it hard going at the beginning. The secret is to start it slowly and to listen to the body's feedback as you practice.Very useful information on the effects of each of the 12 postures of the sequence on each of the endocrine glands and the health benefits that result.There is a very helpful two page pictorial summary in an appendix at the end of the book.Regular practice is key. Having a healthy body and mind is vital for keen spiritual practice.

A must read book for yoga students and teachers
Great book on surya namaskara. This practice is often overlooked by yoga students as a “ quick warm up series” as i also have often overlooked it myself but surya namaskara is a complete yogic sadhana on its own barring the other asanas. This book shows you how to correctly execute all 12 positions correctly. Then you have no excuse to not praxtice yoga , as you can perform surya mamaskara anywhere and anytime for immediate benefits

Sun Salutations
Over the years I have delved in and out of yoga , mainly to tone up , and the sun salutations never appealed to me until I read this book about the postures and their benefits, which are many , including toning up the organs and glands, stimulating digestion and aligning the spine for correct posture. Doing Sun Salutations on a regular basis incorporates strengthening and cardiovascular toning for the body, connecting to the chakra system and also meditation in motion . The book is very easy to read and informative too.

A great book spoilt....
The book itself is good, a wealth of information that is well presented and easy to digest. Sadly the 'new' copy I received was decidedly tired and dog earred. Disappointing for a costly small book.
