X-Plane 12

This isn't so much a review of X-Plane as a review of the packaged product. It installed without a problem, although it took hours. But a couple of weeks later I couldn't run the program, as it requires Disk 1 to be in the drive every time you start it, and it would no longer recognize Disk 1. I'm told the disk must have developed a defect. A scratch or something. Now, I understand that they are trying to keep people from pirating the software. But I spent 45 years of my life in software development before I retired, and software security was a common part of my job. And I can tell you that boneheaded things like this aren't even a speed bump to software pirates and hackers. They get the software anyway. All this does is pile grief on honest PAYING customers. Oh, and as to the disk getting scratched, they come packaged in a cheap cardboard folder, with the disks slipped through slots in the cardboard. It is virtually impossible to remove or insert a disk without causing at least minor scratches. Yes, Laminar has offered to send me a new Disk 1, AFTER I send them photos of my existing disks and the box cover. Again, stopping pirates has a higher priority with them then supporting PAYING customers. Oh well, back to Microsoft Flight Sim.

It's a simulator program for airplanes

I need to spend more time with this software to learn how to land the plane without crashing. It’s a 45th anniversary present for my wife and sometimes she lets me use it. Ha ha!

I ordered xplane12 hoping to improve my flight simulator. I have xplane 11 working perfectly. I ordered the 10 disk version.I must admit it was a pain compared to the download version. I downloaded xplane12 demo prior and it worked. So I am thinking I will not have any problems. Well, it took forever to install and stopped at disk 7.This is a scenery disk. So, I reduced the scenery and tried again. No luck! I then removed all the scenery and tried installing it. It installed but only had the equivalent of the demo. My flight control yoke was not visible. And when I tried xplane 11 again it was damaged!😡I uninstalled xplane12 and had clear my computer then reinstalled xplane 11. It worked. So I am returning xplane12 because it never preformed as advertised.And did some damage in the process.

This software blew errors on more than one disk. After much difficulty I contacted Laminar Research and someone there with bad manners and a very large brain, without a clue, told me that the problem was MY DVD player. They also told me that they really weren't responsible for THEIR software product. I bought a new DVD player - same problem. I arranged to return it to Amazon but was sidetracked by major spinal surgery and missed the return deadline. So, I got to eat about $100 while the developer's attitude was "send your money and shut up". I have run many flight sims in my 67 years and I am going to get MSFS and a dedicated Win PC. BTW, MSFS will support two monitors and the graphics make the X-Plane look like a cartoon. In closing, it would have been so easy (and ethical) to simply give me a key to D/L. It costs them NOTHING. I am out over $100 - no one cares. DON'T BUY IT!
