Tap in console.
Bit expensive but if you want to get the best from your lens i would recommend this. Doesn't seem to be much to it but feels good quality.

A Necessary Evil
Had to buy to update firmware to make Tamron lens compatible with new Nikon Z series camera. Probably never need to use again so for one use it's very expensive, but no option. Easy to use. If used 10 times would be much better vfm.

You dont if it works on your lens until it arrives
I have an 150-600 f4-5.6 lens. Did some research and it suggested to bye one of these and update the lens to go on my new Z7. I came when it was meant to. first had problems with signing on the Tamron site, downloaded what I was meant to to find its not compatible?? and doesn't work with it. After much searching on the lens and found its an A011 and they only do from A012 and above! The lens does not auto focus on the camera, I will just have to keep using my old camera if I need to use it!!

It does what it is supposed to do
It works and means that the lens doesn't need a usb port that would be susceptible to water ingress.

Is This Really Needed?
It seems everything we have in this day and age needs to update. Buy a computer, plug it in and the next hour it’s installing updates. Buy a T.V. plug it in and it spends the next hour updating. So, here we have the Tamron Tap in console. Mooted as being the essential console for all your “newer” Tamron lenses. The software that you need to download separately, this is not a plug and go bit of kit. It’s not hard to do, go to Tamron website and download the utility. Installs in seconds and your good to go.But what does it do? I hear you ask, well all lenses are checked for a number of quality control purposes, one of which is sharpness. Mine is the Nikon version, so you can imagine there are a number of Nikon cameras that work with Tamron “newer” lenses. It is fair to say that perhaps, your lens may need a little fine tuning to get the optimum sharpness you desire. I suppose this is where the console helps. After carrying out your fine tune test with said camera and lens, you can determine whether your lens is back focussing or front focussing. Once you have these numbers, you can dial them into the console and it will then adjust your “newer” lens automatically. This is a great feature and it does work very well. BUT, ( there had to be a but) consider this. If you own a newer model of Nikon camera, there may well be a facility to auto fine tune within the menu. I own and love the Nikon D850 and this does have this facility. As such, I can do this after carrying out my focus test and dial the result into the cameras menu system and that is it.Updates to the Vibration Control (V.C.) can also be downloaded via the console along with any other lens software that Tamron offer an update for. All in all it does beg the question, is it needed? I would say in my case, perhaps not. But on older camera models that don’t have this auto fine tune option, then maybe yes; if you have several “newer” Tamron lenses. The list of compatible lenses with the tap in console are available by checking with Tamron’s website.
