Essential kit for remote monitoring of my hot tub
My hot tub is a fair way down the garden and recently I have been looking for a way to monitor temperatures accurately from inside my house. This is due to the current cost of electric and the fact I have been turning my hot tub off when not in use. With its extended range and clear readings from anywhere via my phone I didn’t have to worry if my tub was going to be cold when I wanted to use it, even if I was down the pub!The setup was super easy and it all just worked perfectly. I can only imagine what the cost of something like this would be if it was sold by balboa or Canadian spa!The addition of the display unit not only increases the range of the WiFi to the unit but also gives a lovely clear display of the current ambient temperature and the internal temperature of the hot tub.It appears very well made and the materials used have obviously been chosen to last in the harsh environment of the hot tub. The temperature display on top of the floating unit is very useful to se current temperature on those cold nights when you have had the bubbles going. This would also be very useful in an outdoor pool, paddling pool or even a pond.Another well made, well priced item from Inkbird. The only way I would change it is to make it as a dispenser for chlorine tablets at the same time.

great pool thermometer.
Revised. Now that I have had this device for some time I am downrating my review to just 2 stars. It only gets these 2 stars because it manages to connect quite reliably to the outside thermometer. The connection to the pool thermometer is abysmal. Unless the receiver is within about 2 meters of the transmitter it loses connectivity after about 30 minutes. If you use a pool cover, again the unit becomes absolutely useless as the weight of the cover will push the tiny antenna below the water causing loss of connection. If you have any walls between the Tx and Rx forget it. The wifi range of the receiver unit is simply ridiculous, it need ro be within about 3-4 meters to be reliable and again must be in the same room. All things considered the idea of this unit is good but it beeds to be refined and upgraded to allow it to work anythig like acceptably and reliably.

Brilliant
I've tried a few cheap wifi/bluetooth floating thermometers, and they've always let me down - sooner rather than later they die due to water getting inside. This Inkbird floater (and hub/app) has impressed me on several fronts:It's survived 4 months so far, in all the kinds of temperatures and conditions a welsh spring/summer provides. No water ingress despite being under a pool cover of a night and quite a few days too. The battery life is great, still at 2/3rds after 4 months (although I did try, and wouldn't, recommend rechargeables - they do the job, but discharge a lot quicker). The Hub/Gateway is intuitive to get set up (only downside for me is there's no option of batteries - it requires a USB-C input and is therefore tethered to one location). On the upside, once you have it set up, you can, wherever you are, view your temperatures on the app on your phone (which, again, is intuitive and doesn't appear to have been translated from Chinese), along with graphs of one months' temperatures, which is excellent for tracking the ups and downs. After this purchase, I got a ITH-20R (thermometer and probe) for the outlet of the solar panels... and once again, getting it linked to the hub was child's play. Actually, the reason I'm writing this review is because I've just ordered a second 20R, and I thought I'd share how impressed I am with the functionality, build quality and overall simplicity of Inkbird kit.I can't comment on the accuracy of the temperatures, as I'm watching pool and air temps, not brewing beer - so I don't really care if it's 1 or 2 degrees off. But so far, I'm thoroughly impressed, and I'd certainly recommend Inkbird for producing durable, user-friendly, smart temperature monitoring kit. I appreciate a quality product, and this is just that.

Works well, but with a major connectivity flaw
The NKBIRD IBS-P02R Floating Pool Thermometer performs its primary function perfectly. It accurately measures and transmits the water temperature, even from the bottom of the garden, provided you follow a specific setup process. To get it working properly, you need to pair the device indoors, close to the base station receiver. Once paired, it works fine outdoors, consistently updating the temperature without issues. However, there's a significant drawback: if the base station loses power, it completely loses connection with the transmitter. The only way to re-establish the connection is to bring the thermometer back indoors close to the base station and when the transmitter sends a temperature reading out again it will connect to the base station again. It is incredibly inconvenient to do this, especially if you have a large property or if power outages are common in your area. No option to put a battery inside the base station. While the thermometer itself is reliable, this connectivity issue is a major flaw that severely impacts its usability and convenience. It's disappointing that such a seemingly well-designed product has this critical weakness in its connectivity feature. In summary, it's a functional pool thermometer when it works, but the pairing problem makes it less practical than it should be. Potential buyers should consider whether they're willing to deal with this inconvenience before purchasing. Some people also report issues with condensation inside the transmitter, I've put a little sachet of silica gel inside to help with this hopefully.
