The media could not be loaded. This is an amazing product and exactly what I was looking for. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and the Amazon page told me this product would not fit my vehicle. It does, in fact, fit a 2014 Wrangler. Basically, your stock jeep has a design flaw in which the entire weight of the spare tire is mounted on a cheap tire carrier, which is mounted to the weak sheet metal of your tailgate. If you put any serious amount of weight onto that carrier setup you will eventually see your tailgate warp and the rivets pop. To correct this, Teraflex designed the HD Hinged Tire Carrier Kit. This kit makes it so that your spare tire now mounts to the stronger Teraflex spare tire mount. This mount is connected to the very strong HD Hinged Tire Carrier assembly, which bolts to the hinges on your Jeep, rather than to some weak sheet metal.Installation was very easy. I am far from the most handy guy on the planet, and it only took me two hours. This included a trip to the local hardware store. Before installation, definitely watch the Teraflex install video and make sure to have all the tools that Teraflex recommends. I have seen that some people painted underneath where the stock hinges were located. I did not bother to do this, because the Teraflex tire carrier hinges go right over that same spot anyways.The product itself works as advertised. I have gone off road approximately five times since I installed this tire carrier. My spare tire (approximately 90lbs) has not moved at all. The alternative to the Teraflex HD Hinged Carrier is to purchase a new rear bumper that includes a spare tire mount. Unfortunately, most of the spare tire carriers require you to give up one handed operation of your tailgate. Opening the tailgate becomes a two step process. First you have to disconnect and swing out the tire carrier. Only then can you open your tailgate. I did not want to give up one handed operation of my tailgate, and Teraflex offered the perfect solution.

This is my second Teraflex HD HInged Carrier that I have purchased. this is the first time I have purchased it through Krawl Off-Road via Amazon. I ordered this on Monday, November 25th and received it on Monday, December 2nd. Not bad considering this was during Thanksgiving, and it wasn't Prime. My experience with Krawl wasn't great, but I've read a lot of good reviews about them in other Jeep forums. My experience was probably the 1%.Anyway, the carrier is a strong lightweigtht alternative to a bumper/carrier combo. It's cheaper, lighter, looks almost stock, opens and closes with the same handle used to open the tail gate, and can easily be adjusted to your preference. I'm running 35in Nittos that are pretty heavy, and my tail gate is now rock solid. I like to keep the spare tire as close as possible to the gate. Installation may take about 2 hours. If you don't have a press for the bolts, it might take even longer. The biggest obstacle with this install is pushing the three supplied bolts throught the plate that has the collar. A good one ton press (or bigger) should do the trick. Luckily my step dad had one. After that, just follow the installation instructions that are supplied, or follow the install instructions on YouTube through Teraflex's channel. Go ahead and get some generic automotive grease and loc-tite ready. The directions call for it, and it's useful.The version of the kit I received had a different mounting bracket for the third brakelight than what is in the product picture on Amazon. My first Teraflex Hinged Carrier kit that was on my 2012 Unlimited Sport came with the bracket that is in the picture. The kit I just receieved from Krawl that's going on my 2014 Unlimited Rubicon was a little different. Both still do the exact same job, except the latest one has no surface area to mount a license plate. It's strictly for the third brakelight only.All in all, I would recommend this to anyone that has a JK and is looking to lighten their rear end a bit!

This kit is perfect. Well built and simple to install. Very high quality parts and you can see and feel the difference compared to the Rugged Ridge. I would know! I had the RR Tire Carrier Kit first and found that it immediately had manufacturing defects from the minute I installed it. The retailer I purchased it from refused to take it back and RR wouldn't take it back or send a replacement. I should have gone with TeraFlex from the beginning. Don't bother doing any more research - just go with the TeraFlex kit if you're in the market.No rattling, no noise, and the door shuts solid every time. I use my rear door daily letting my dog in and out and didn't want to bother with a bumper kit. This is the best option out there!Plus purchasing it on Amazon means worry free returns.
