Fodor's Essential Scandinavia: The Best of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland (Full-color Travel Guide)

Viking lands
Although DK Eyewitness generally produce the more attractive travel guides, this edition by Fordor’s is the most up-to-date travel guide to the Scandinavian countries. It is very clear and packs a lot of useful information in a handy 512-page book (13 x 25 x 1.6 cm – 5 x 8 x 0.7 in) – handy enough to fit into the coat pocket. The 2020 edition is now out-of-date. Look for this edition with the Nyhavyn Waterfront but without the Northern lights (that is the 2020 ed) on the cover. It is full of interesting information such as the prevalent mirrors attached to private homes in some of the old Danish villages. The owners sit by the window and observe the goings on along the street where they live. In Sweden, we are warned that hotel beds are limited in size but the breakfasts are unlimited. The practical information seem comprehensive and easy to rely on. If one needs information about hotels, restaurants, cafes, shopping, nightlife, and, of course, sight-seeing, they are all set out in a few short paragraphs, and supplemented by helpful details of transportation. Rails, cars, buses etc. If one is contemplating a trip to Scandinavia in the next year or two, this is the book to get.

Exactly What We Needed
We are planning a trip to Scandinavia and this is a very useful book. Organized by country and then major cities within each country… it gives you a good sense of top sights and activities. For me this is a first step to plan how many days we wanted to spend in each country. It won’t take the place of online research, but it does narrow down what you would do research on. Overall we very much like it.

Comprehensive - a Complete Guide
We spend 4 days in each of Norway and Sweden and bought 3 books. This was by far the most helpful, and a good size to bring around. Essential if you plan on moving around Scandinavia as a tourist.
