F off robbers go next door!!!!
This lock looks and feels solid and is well known by locksmiths as a good lock that you can depend on to work well, with a London bar on the lock body and one on the keep to prevent punch out it has added power? The London bars are coach bolted through the door to be seen from the outside, as it is worth letting the bad guy know before he starts to work on your door! With the U channel and rail to stop jam spreading, this really tells the bad guys to walk on past! the 5 lever mortice and the 3 star Yale euro it means the robbers have to have many skills to get in! The added long throw lock and another euro deadbolt on the top rail I feel safe to leave my house for long periods, Having some homemade exterior warding made from steel hanging around the lock on the top rail makes it harder to use a tension wrench, this makes it harder to pick the lock! Bolting the jam to the frame with 3 inch bolts helps prevent kick in attacks as do hinge bolts, keep everything tight with insulation to reduce any movements in the door too! Outside lights are a good way to put off robbers, stickers on the glass panels can help laminate the glass making it harder to break! The stickers like mine can be of a barking dog, Karate and telling of security marked property to put them off entering in the first place? My dog had a big water bowl beside my front door, often with a big well chewed bone! Image is everything when defending your home, buy some neighbourhood watch sticker even if there is no scheme in place as a robber may not know that? Think about what you do and don't be the one house with less security than the rest, that's the one they're searching for after all? Don't feel scared but don't be afraid to look like you are, have as I do an alarm but have dummy alarm boxes to all sides of the house. A silent alarm sticker costs very little but sews the seeds of doubt that might with other things cause them to walk away from your house before they do damage to it, Imagine you were thinking about robbing your house what would put you off it most and why, most robbers are poorly skilled but some are good so by really testing the good ones you have eliminated the badly skilled ones! Your house is worth it, you may have seen the devastated look on the face of one who has been robbed so don't let your self be one of them?

Not an easy retro-fit for an old rim-latch installation
Whilst the internal latch unit and striker in the shut comfortably covered the old Legge rim-latch footprint, the door pull external escutcheon could not be fitted to include the two large security bolts beside the old 35 mm -'ish barrel hole in this hardwood door. An additional plate to span the 35 mm hole would be needed to make use of those bolts in an upgrade situation. The barrel is adequately secured by the conventional two smaller screws passed through the anti-drill latch back-plate, however. The mechanism is pleasantly heavyweight in the latch body and the striker plate. The paper templates provided are inadequate - printed on poor, flimsy paper in dreadful colour contrast. I did not use them! Accurate positioning of the striker plate - when setting the closure depth - was very much trial-and-error. Good templates might have helped. An old trick of putting only one of the four screws in place - to test the closure - did enable a few attempts to get reliable closure without door rattle or latch pin binding. As a blind DIYer, my estimate of "2 hours" turned into 4 ! My wife has removed my 'type rating' for this job next time. It would have been much easier on a new door! Bear this in mind on any DIY retrofit!

Rock solid butā¦
Lovely, big, strong and high security lock but:a) the mechanism is a bit rough. Maybe it will get smoother with use;b) the lever returns to horizontal when catch held back with button and it can be difficult to tell if it is held back especially whenc) the āboltā projects about 3mm from the main case even when held back by the button. This means the door frame fitting has to be sunk more into the frame otherwise the catch is released upon closing. Not fun if you havenāt got a key!d) the rim cylinder seems a bit cheap
