Hi, definitely NOT16 inches tall... But yes 5 inches at least... Its a reliable nice little alarm clock.

Q: Can you set alarm for am and pm?

Not sure as haven't had to use the alarm yet.

Q: how long does the battery last?

God knows! It's like any other clock - so ages. We have had a battery in ours for 7 weeks. No sign of needing to change it yet.
