The hammer you should buy.
At last, a geo hammer that does a food job and doesn't cost a fortune. Forget the fancy go faster, plays tunes and has the right name hammers. Save your money for other things. This one hasn't come apart on me, is a good weight and as comfortable as hammers ever are. Unless of course fashion and status are your thing, in which case steer well away from this ordinary just for hitting things hammer.Flat face and good pick. Swings comfortably.

Not bad at all
I bought this hammer to use on a week long geology fieldtrip in wales and i have to say this hammer is very good. This hammer is very tough and manages to break things like basalt, the flat side is probably better for breaking the rocks but the back end is good for using as a lever like a claw hammer to pull layers of rock away so overall the toughness of this is very good. The only downside to this hammer is that it is heavier than you give it credit for when you need to carry it around all day in that when you are holding it the thing feels tough and well made but not too heavy but when you start carrying it around it gets alot heavier.hopefully this review has been helpful

Excellent rock hammer
Excellent value for the price and a real Geology hammer, you can ring rock surfaces with that or discover they are weathered or hollow. Good carrying size, professional Geology well pinned head shaft, might save a slide off ice on a mountain enough to grip your boots and not become part of Crib Goch scree landscape but it is a rock hammer not a woodwork nor climbing pick so do not expect it to do other. We are not supposed to chop out pieces of designated Geology site nor somebody's farm these days so do not cut holes in the weathering rock blocks of Bristol Down Pennant that made the walls of freedom of academic life because some officer of law will deal with you these days, but it is a good object for its purpose as long as not used for stealing coal, there are limits to qualified Geology. Very good thank you.

Hammer of Odin
Very good value for money. Strong hickory shaft that absorbs a lot of vibration so good to work with. Quality forged head is heavy enough for majority of work. Pick part is great for more precise work.If you are an occasional fossil hunter this is ideal. Old fashioned look but that hickory shaft is actually better in many ways than most of the mid range modern shafts. It should outlast me as long as I respect it.Could do with finding a holster for this as it is bordering on the heavy side. Not a fault. A light hammer often won't do what you want when out in the field. A little extra power is a good thing but it does mean some extra weight.Overall I think it is a real bargain and recommend it to all you budding geologists and fossil hunters. Remember to get eye protection.

Good hammer.
I bought this for a two day fossil hunting trip at the Jurassic coast. The metal is well attached to the handle, although it would be nice to have some kind of cover at the top of the hammer to make it look a bit nicer, but that issue is minor. After the two days, the paint is still there, minor scratches at the pointed end. What did surprise me is that the chisel side of the hammer was still sharp and in great condition, even after hitting particularly hard rocks.I would defiantly recommend this hammer for fossil hunting.

Disappointing
The tip fractured and broke when my 6 year old used it for the first time on a rock, I returned it due to poor product performance. Disappointed with the quality.

Returned, Nice but too heavy for the intended end user.
I should have paid more attention to the description. This is a proper rock cracker, well made and really looks like it would give years and years of faithful service. However this was a gift, and is too heavy for the intended recipient.

Ideal for fossil hunters
Great hammer, made a trip to the Jurassic coast even more exciting with the family! Would recommend.
