Purrfectly marvellous ... by far and away the best cat scratching post we have ever bought.
Over the years we have bought many different scratching posts for our cats, but I have to say the 70 cm Ancol Acticat Fat Boy Scratch Post is in a league of its own. Our cat loves it. He can stretch to his full height and give it a great old double pawed scratch ... and due to the size of the post, it doesn't even move! Furthermore, he can jump and sit on the top of it (which he has done briefly a couple of times).Other, slimmer, posts have been fine but often have worn out quite quickly, resulting in us either trying to 're-rope' them or having to replace them with a new scratching post. This one looks like it will last considerably longer ... and be more popular in the process. Two things to bear in mind; firstly, it is huge (as you can see from some of the photos other customers have posted)! Secondly, you also have a small DIY task before the post can be used: you need to 'attach' the post to its base as the base is provided separately in the box and is folded in two. The post attaches to the base with two thick screws (provided, along with an allen key for tightening them). As one tightens the screws the base pulls itself taut against the post and provides a rigid base. However, this is a quick and extremely simple process. So even though this post is more expensive than the 'slimmer' posts one can buy, in my opinion, the quality of this scratching post is definitely worth the additional expense.

Good item
Great item, cat loves it and hasn't fallen apart like some of the cheap ones do.

Huge scratch post
This has to be the sturdiest cat post I have ever bought. It is huge which is comical, it looks like it should be in a giants home! Unlike most posts it has 2 screws holding it to the base so it won't come loose. My 4 month old kitten thinks it's the best thing ever and loves using it and it's big enough for a cat to perch on the top. I figure my cats usually destroy a post in about 18 months and at around £20 a go this works out expensive so this one seems worth the extra to me as it will last longer as the scratching surface is huge compared to a regular sized post. I've had it in place for over a week now and considering how rough Luna the kitten is there's been very little shedding from the post.

Ideal for big cats
I have 2 fat boy cats! This post is perfect for big cats. They can't pull it over and the base is big enough so that it doesn't move when they scratch. The base is big so make sure you measure where you want to put it. Worth the money, my two were straight to it!

Longevity but pricey
I first bought this Sept 2018, I have 2 cats and 1 small dog, I can vouch this is still standing and going strong (the corners has been nibbled by the then puppy, and a robe is undone. However it is still in shockingly good useable conditionHOWEVER2018 I bought this for £35, and now it is £50-£60!!! I am stunned!!!!!!!!!

My cats love it!
It came promptly and the cats actually chose to play on the scratching post rather than the box it came in, which is a first! They are enjoying scratching on it (and I'm hoping this will distract them from the furniture) and also like sitting on top of it. The post is sturdy and stable and it was super easy to assemble.I have deducted one star because it arrived in a huge plastic bag inside a box. The plastic was completely unnecessary. Without this, it would definitely have been five stars!

Good, sturdy scratch post
UPDATE: HAS BEEN USED DAILY FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS AND STILL STANDING! Good, sturdy scratch post. Bought after the tiny starter post I had was nearly knocked over by my cat. This one, his toys "disappear" behind it, or the toy bird flies and lands on top of it, and he can launch himself at this post and climb it safely without it falling over. A very good buy, the cat hasn't looked to scratch any furniture as he clearly doesn't need to with access to this bad boy. A tip to get him interested because it's obviously new smelling...I bought some catnip and sprinkled/rubbed it all around...he was straight on it. Another thing is, he likes the soft plush area at the bottom and sometimes lies there to relax. He can stand on the top but doesn't tend to stay up there after he has caught his toy prey as a cat couldn't stretch out and relax, it would be more of a viewing perch really. He can "hug" this to climb it but his paws don't reach all the way round and meet, so it really is a nice wide, sturdy post for him to scratch. It's also a good height for him to stretch as he scratches.
